What would cause the battery voltage while hot to read 14.65 and at the regulator read 13.65? I did accidently ground out the pos. clamp with key off.
This is a 69 superbee with electronic ign. and 70's charging. It always ran at 13.60 when hot up until about a couple weeks ago. Notice acid coming out of case. When cold the voltage at the battery reads 15.20 and then comes down when hot to 14.65. I have ran jumper grounds and replaced ign. box, ballast res. and regulator and still the same. I have checked the bulkhead and everything is clean and greased. Could the Mopar perf. battery went bad
when I grounded out pos. cable? Thanks,

I had somewhat of a similar issue with a Shelby Charger that ended up being a bad alternator. Something internal was causing it to overcharge....
Might be worth a try.

I had the pretty much same situation. Mine would show charging at times and low at times. The car started each time but cranked slower than it should have. I checked everything from the battery, regulator, alternator and all my grounds. The just of the dam thing is the battery was junk. Replaced it and no more problems. Does anybody you hang with have a good battery, Start with that and see what happens. Check the system with a different battery and running to see if the system is working right then. Good luck, Hope you find it easy.

Yeah your battery could have a short in it from running such high voltage, that happened on my truck once. It was charging at 17 volts!!!!!!!!!

I ran my 79 Grand Prix winter car at over 16 volts on a new battery, for almost 4 years, It eventually fried the battery, it's the alternator.

Here's the story! A few years ago after installing the 70's charging system I decided to re-wire the charging wire. Instead of going into the inside thru bulkhead and into amp gauge it is now in the engine bay only. Charging was okay as long as I didn't run with headlights on if I did voltage would drop to under 13.0 at idle and lights got real dim. I figure there was something weird going on after all the electrical changes I made but I just let her be. Then a month ago I bought a 78 amp powermaster alt. After I installed it
I took it out and it quit on me. Let it cool down for 15 mins. started up and quit again 30 seconds later. Finally got it back into the garage and started my diagnosis. Found it was the orange box, but while all this was going on things started getting real hot. Probably from all the resistance caused from the higher amp alt. After I put the new orange box on it ran fine but I never really thru the fluke on to check voltage until I noticed the acid coming out of the battery. I had this problem before so I knew what I was in for. Decided to pull all the engine bay wiring off and when you have elect. ign and 70's style charging there are alot more more to contend with. I took off all the tape checked all the wires and cleaned all my terminals. I new I had high resistance somewhere. I did find one of the terminals that hooks up to the ballast res. from ignition had some discoloring. I replaced that terminal. Fired it up and it started at 14.55 then came down to 14.25 in approx. 15 mins. I turned on the headlights on bright and with engine idling at 900 the voltage did not drop like it used to and it also wasn't charging as high. And to think, I was ready to but all new reproduction wiring for the engine bay! Also I have read where to make sure you have the two field wires hooked up correctly, that may have been a problem in the past. The battery may still be suspect. With key on after sitting overnight the voltage reads 12.25 from 12.5 sitting. I am thinking this is the way charging systems are suppose to perform!! Or maybe there is still a small trace of resistance somewhere. That will be another story in the future, I am sure!!
