Help pricing 1969 Dodge SuperBee

Well it looks like the poll for selling the car vs a parts car is about 50/50.
So I guess what is one mans junk is another mans treasure.
Put it on eBay and see what she goes for.

MM in our restoration world it is a known fact the better the car equals the better the result. Furthermore, the better the car the less spent overall or more money freed up to go over and above on other things versus settling for less......

Then we have the other end of the restoration hobby and I do understand 3woods point. Buy in at a low price and budget things out to reach an end product. A car like the one in the thread needs a ton of work, sheetmetal, parts, drivetrain ect...but this group is willing to tackle it...More power to those guys/gals...

Different strokes for different folks.....

If the plans for this bee is paint and body, rebuilt drivetrain, new interior, all parts replaced, chrome plating, new glass etc...IMHO it is not possible to accomplish that kind of restoration for 20k.......

I think you and I have experienced some of the same things and have pretty much the same opinions on restoring a Mopar.

Sounds like I should get battle pay for bodily dismemberment lmao. Really reaching to justify a point about since I didn't spend as much as you that it didn't happen. My time is not calculated. It would have been spent doing something else I wasn't getting paid for....plus you seem to miss the point of it being a HOBBY! I'm 44 and work full time plus have a night life, I didn't lose any fingers, no ptsd. Just motivation to drive a car. And yes, I kept a record of the parts and machine work. It's not too difficult if you do the work yourself. Maybe you should pick up a wrench more often than your checkbook.

Hey threewood, no need to get testy here. I'm not questioning your abilities, its just a judgement call between junk to far gone or a restorable car that will retain some value when done. I really am curious to read your resto thread to see how/what you did with your car. Also, I have NO need to justify my point, nor do you. We are all different and have different experiences. And whether you want to admit it or not, TIME is always worth something, it isn't free, and it isn't unlimited. Yes, I understand the HOBBY part, I've been into these cars for over 50 years now, I've got a few years on you and I've turned a lot of wrenches in those years on my cars. I am a DIY'er for almost ALL jobs that come up, as you seem to be also. I have 7 Mopars that are "nice drivers" or BETTER and they didn't get that way strictly because of my checkbook, and yes, I have one and I attribute a lot of that to being a DIY'er over the years. Oh, and I keep lots of very accurate records too!

You mentioned "motivation". Yes, I have that same motivation but you will find out that as you age that motivation will be to "actually DRIVE" that car instead of spending endless hours "Dreaming" about it while sweating in the garage pounding tin.

Threewood, I'm sorry if you thought I was attacking you or something like that. I wasn't. I just have a different opinion of what a reasonable/feasible restoration project looks like!

Good luck to you in the future!

I've got a soft spot for Bees and yes, there's somebody that will put it back together! Put it on eBay and see what happens!
I recently pulled my Bee out as a father/son project. My youngest (11yrs old) loves old Mopars which also gets the wife's approval and buy in!

Me too. Been wrenching on mine for 44 years now, but some think only my checkbook has done all that work.

This was someone's discarded parts car. A buddy got it for the four speed stuff. I traded him a 383/727 that came from a car another buddy had given me.
Free bird.jpg

the front clip was there...but the fenders and hood were junk. The doors were fixable, but needed a lot of work. The trunk lid was junk. The floors had been patched, and it had new 1/4 skins on it. The following was missing....and the passenger side inner fender was bashed.
windshield, engine, radiator, driveshaft, shifter, flywheel, presser plate, clutch fork. 4 speed was there but questionable.
what was there was mostly junk...interior....seats were shredded,no carpet or headliner, door panels were toast.
So I got the car for free. I had been collecting parts for 20 years by now, and I had a '68 Charger that had a good 440/4 speed, all related parts, good radiator to go in it. I had the inner fender. I had most of the missing bolts, screws, from parts cars.
I scoured the swap meet at The Nats for several years,MCG ads,e bay, moparts looking for parts. I scored a beautiful pair of fenders for $100 each, front bumper from same guy for $35 that looked like a new take off.
It took me about 5 years to get it looking like this...

I scored a killer deal on moparts for the Cragars and tires. Drove it to The Nats twice before I lost it to a garage fire.
My point is...I'm a married guy, two kids, mortgage, etc, small checkbook. But I was able to do 95% of the work myself. I've had other mopars, better starting condition than this one. But I had more FUN searching for parts, finding deals, horse trading for parts, meet some great people, and it was far from perfect, but it is the one car I wish I could have back. It was a blast to drive, and I was able to do it largely on my own.

No hurt feelings, sorry if I came across like a dick. I like discussing cars and getting different perspectives from everyone. We can't agree on everything and I never expect to change someones point of view ( which is why I stay out of political discussions) but I do like to try and get my point across. It can be done, but there will always be tradeoffs.

I do find it interesting the many different types of builds people can accomplish. The main objective, besides time and money, is getting a project finished one way or another and not letting it rot away or sit in a pile for years. I would take on a challenge like this Bee because it is difficult and I really enjoy working on them. But my gtx is probably the last one, I am not getting any younger and I want to enjoy what I have before my body falls apart.

As for my project, it is a driver so the cost is less. A nut and bolt resto like Justin's will absolutely cost more but it will also be worth more. My goal was to enjoy the car as I have seen too many full restorations stall out and last years. Heck, paint and body at a pro shop could take a year and cost $20k+. Also, that was my first crack at panel replacement and major rust repair. I am out my time but I chalk it up to on the job training :)

Mark,

Honestly, I love every aspect of your GTX and it is nicely done.....if you were local to me I would be over in a heartbeat to help if needed or have you park side by side with me at any show....

Without any of us, (me and you) as el dub stated earlier it would be a ghost town...

I am a rare bird in this hobby....I like all types of builds but if someone asks my opinion is it worth doing one on a particular car I will be honest in my response.....

Btw you don't know how much I would loose on my GTX if I sold it....enough to buy an exotic, no kidding....but that will never happen as long as I am alive...

My pops car is priceless to me so value was never a factor.....when I look at this car I see him and some days I can't even work on it....is that strange? Maybe but that's Love....

I appreciate that Justin. I like all build types as well. What hurts most is that many people are priced out of the old car game and entry level beaters are all that remains as options. I would love to have a fully restored car but realistically I would hate to ruin the value by driving it and I would feel compelled to keep it as is.

Now, if I had to sell a car for some reason my gtx is gone. My 4 door 62 Plymouth means much more to me than the x so I will never sell it. I can remember my mom and I driving it across the country from NM to KY. And it has been in yhe family since new. So I can relate to the sentiment that is attached to vehicles. It was a fun road trip. I go to the garage just to look at it sometimes.

Completely agree! I am a firm believer that the more people restoring cars equals better availability of parts....Forcing the repop industry to improve things to make the parts and availability better....

Shoot me some pics of that 62......
