I'm trying to put this 440 together and hit a snag with the pullies. I'm pretty sure the crank pully is correct, but the water pump pully came seperate from the engine and I'm not sure it's the correct pully. It doesn't line up with any of the lower pully grooves and it's rubbing against the lower pulley. Any ideas?

Ah...pulley HELL.

Always been easier for me to get all from the same moter, and make sure I'm the one that removes them.

Sometimes I think they changed pulley specs every year plus different pulleys for both B and RB and both A/C and non A/C.

Is there a difference in height between the passenger-side discharge and driver's side discharge water pump housings?

That is a 4 groove a/c crank pulley and a non-a/c HD dual belt W/P pulley. I'd toss both. Are you running P/S?

does your alternator pulley line up with the pulley on the water pump? What year is that 440 from? My water pump outlet is on the drivers side and that crank pulley just looks wrong to me. Does the pulley still rub when bolted up to the pump?

if you are not running A/C , i would ditch all of it. get you a pair of these. my P/S will run off the inside groove. they line up perfect , its just the angle. my water outlet is on the passenger side

Sweet!

We got us a pulley expert on board.

I think you could probably sell that service.

Interesting. My P/S is on the outside groove.

wow thats crazy, as you can see , there is no way i could run my PS on the outside groove and my WP pulley is almost against the WP bolts. maybe i have the wrong crank pulley , time for more research

For purely dramatic reasons I reiterate my previous posts, in abridged format-

"...pulley HELL..."

"...you could sell that service..."

That's an interesting non-stock sanden compressor mount.

Isn't that a cool setup? Uses the stock pullies. Looks like the alt is moved out the depth of a pulley groove.

Looks like you need a deeper W/P pulley. It should pretty much hide the W/P bolts which are a special thin head bolt. Compair your pulley and top W/P bolt to mine.

hey bruzilla what all are you running?ac,ps,both?makes a big diff on which ac system you are running as well.

The car has P/S but no AC. The water pump pulley I have now is 6 1/8", so I'm thinking I need a 5 7/8" or smaller, and it looks like the only two heights for those are 1 1/4" and 1 1/8", so one should work. All these years, and I've always thought these pulleys were the same diameter. Learn something new everyday!

seems like the only reason to have a 4 groove crank pulley would be for an eng with a smog(air) pump.that would mean it was off a newer motor or poss a small block.

Nope the 4-groove crank pulley is for the A/C setup. Have a stack of them, how many did you need?
