Hi everyone, I would like some suggestions for camshaft and converter selection. I hope to get it right first time.
I have no plans to race the car.

My car is a 1964 Dodge 2 door coupe

440 with 30 over pistons, 9.5 compression
Edelbrock RPM heads, Edelbrock RPM intake and 750 holley HP.
MSD vacuum distributor
Manual brakes.
Headman headers and 2.5 inch exhaust.
3.5 diff gears and 28 inch tires.
2500rpm at 60mph on the highway.

All my cars have been factory stock, this is my first performance build. I have 3.23 rear gears but I guess they will limit my cam choices further. Anyone with a similar build I would like your advice.

Thank you in advance.

I don't have a similar setup, but the 284 484 lift cam would work very nicely in your combo

Thanks, I was looking at the similar cam range. Just a lot of brands and grinds to consider.

Comp Cam Xtreme Energy .488/.491

I feel some important factors regarding cam/converter, and gear selection are-
-How rowdy can the engine be and you be okay with it?
-how loose can the converter be and you be okay with it?
-how much gear do you think you can live with?

All three of these items should be “on the same page” and working in unison.

Since this is your first “hot rod” type build, I’d err on the conservative side for all three.
The Comp XE274 or XE275HL are decent choices that aren’t too wild.
(A milder option for the cam is a Crower 271HDP)
I would use 1.5 rockers with any of those cams.
Couple it with an 11” converter(2800-3000), and leave the 3.23’s in the car.
A good combo for your first hot rod build.

Great! Thanks for your advice. I am slowly understanding cam specs and such. Keeping the 3.23 gears in the rear sounds great to me. Thanks again.

FYI
Any Transmission or convertor mfg. will ask if you have a Dyno sheet.
The Dyno sheet will let them know where your motor makes power,
& choose the best result.
For most this is not a option.
Safely I would use a 3200 stall convertor.
Dynamic convertors are inexpensive, & will give you a good baseline.
Wouldn't hurt trying 3:55 gears with this combo.
