I'm trying to rebuild the MC on my 72 Satellite Sebring Plus. The casting number for the MC is correct so I would like to keep the original part with the car instead of replacing the MC. Problem is I can't remove the piston assembly. The piston retaining ring is removed from the end. The service manual shows there should be a piston retainer screw inside the front bowl chamber. I did not find a screw inside the MC. See attached photos. There is tapped hole inside the MC and I can thread a #10-24 bolt into the hole about 1/4" deep. I've looked into the hole and it doesn't appear the retainer screw is broken off inside the hole. The piston assembly slides freely until it contacts some type of positive stop. How do I remove the piston assembly???
I'm completely rebuilding the entire brake system on the car. I don't think the braking system has add much attention over the year. The sludge I found inside the front calipers was horrible; I wonder what I'll find inside the MC piston assembly.
