Pulled the starter off the 68 hemi while the trans is out and need help identifying what its from. The nose cone # is G2342928 and the case is 1889100. I've found the case number identified as a Chrysler replacement motor, but cant find the nose cone number. I purchased new fasteners and the nose cone i have uses a course thread 1/2, and the replacement I purchased is a fine thread 7/16. I've read that /6 also used a direct drive. here are a couple pics, but they aren't the best.

Not that the /6 never used a direct drive or any other Mopar but the Hemi is the only auto engine of late 60's or early 70's with a direct drive all else will use the gear reduction.

I'm not sure what, if any /6 used a direct drive starter, I just read it somewhere. Every /6 i've pulled apart had a gear reduction. Im just curious what this starter is from.

The /6 originally came with a direct drive, but switched when the reduction geared starter was introduced in 1962. The Canadian /6 stayed with a direct drive starter until 1966.

Ah gotcha, so this very well could be a /6 nosecone.

Are you able to use the new nose with the original coarse threaded fasteners? I've seen the 1889100 number listed in various places, including as a fit for 1961 Imperial. Is it a Prestolite starter? Even after most Chrysler cars and trucks switched to the corporate reduction gear starter, the Chrysler Marine engines continued with the Prestolite direct drives so you might find some help looking at marine starter suppliers.

Yes, the starter seems to work fine, and also works with the course thread 1/2 inch fastener. Not sure if its a prestolite, I am unaware of the starter manufacturers. I was mainly looking for identification of the application, and also if the course 1/2 is correct or a drilled and tapped repair or some sort.

Old Chrysler industrial use Prestolite starters as well
I sold parts for 25 years and all the direct drives were prestolite that I saw but that is not for certain
