Henry rifles

I worked at a very large gun store in the mid to late 90s.

Henry rifles at that time were just kind of gimicky and looked and seemed cheap. They were very popular with banquets, as they could get them cheap and raffle them off. I held hundreds of them and was never impressed with them.

Then it seems about 2010 they really turned things around and now they are a really nice little gun. I dont know if some ownership changed or maybe they had some revenue intake and or possible engineer changes.....

Oddly enough it seemed pretty similar with the CZ line of rifles. Which now they make some really good stuff.

They moved into their custom-built newest facility in NJ first of 2009, after the founder had passed in 2007.
Might have something to do with your chronology.

they have quite a few rifles in other calibers too check their main Rifle page
Marlins are an offshoot, in their line up
most all I've read they had great reviews too

I want stainless steel a 'Trapper .45-70'

I had one a long time ago, sold a long time ago now
the .44 mag (classic Marlin) 'blue version' walnut stocks
when I lived in Palmer/Anchorage Alaska
bear gun, same rounds as my carry pistol, when hiking or going off trail
not the greatest hunter for longer shots, but will get the job done
especially closer ranges/close quarters to about 150 yards, shorter barrels,
good for carrying/hiking or while climbing through the willows
beit protection from predators or Moose wolf or bear etc.
dispatch coyotes well too

I have their Big Boy X Model in 38 spcl/.357 with the black polymer stock. Great gun, it's smooth, accurate and pretty tough. I use it as a behind the pickup seat, on the river, take anywhere gun. And it's the same caliper as my stainless GP100 Ruger pistol.

After having one on order with a local gun shop since November, I gave up on them and found an out-of-state dealer who had them in stock. Now all I need is a scope.

I have 3 Henrys.
22 mag
30-30
And a 45-70 which is my favorite.
Get it with the side gate for easier loading.
I shoot cast .460 with either 405 gr or 350 gr bullets
Handloaded. I will shoot to 200yds easy with this and its carries a tremendous amount of energy downrange. If you hit something it is dead.
Once you understand the nuances of a 45-70 you will like it.
Any way you look at a henry they are well designed and built.
Also spend real real money on a scope don't cheap it.
It makes a difference.
If you have the opportunity try both focal point type scopes to see which one suits you better.

18x Leupold variable. Best scopes there are at a halfway decent price. My 45power has had no problems whatsoever for the last 5yrs.

RC, look at BKL scope rings. Cheap & grab good. My 45power is on a.22rf for 50yd benchrest. Don’t even think of that power for anything other than benchrest, lol.(I’m trying to stay within a 1/16” on every shot.)

Henry has come out with a revolver now, just saw something on it on Hickock's channel.
Damn nice looking rig, like most of what they make. Might have to check that out (I currently
don't have any wheel guns).

Anyone try out the Homesteader yet? Checked one out at a local fleet store feels well built.

Buy the best glass you can afford. Nobody has better glass than European stuff. With a 223, you don't need a crazy tactical piece with all the bells and whistles, and there are many optics made for 223.....I'd buy a variable in the 2.5-10X range. JMO

Lever action, I think peep sights.
When I was young, our town had rifle club. We used military single shot bolt action .22 with peep sights. I earned my expert marksman medals there. So I always associate peep sights with those rifles.
This is the sight that came with my M1 Carbine.

When I was a younger man iron sights on smaller cartridges were fine. I am slightly older now and I find scopes a necessity more than a luxury. it makes shooting fun again. Also with the likes of my Swiss K31 or 300win mag a scope is a must. These rifles are alot more accurate then my naked eye especially at distance.

After revisiting this thread. I talked to my local gun dealer today, told him I need a Henry 22 magnum express.
