Here we go again- hurricane Milton

I am staying put in St. Pete. My wife works at the hospital and is on the Hurricane Team, they have been called and will be on premises from Tuesday through Thursday. Our home is less than 10 minutes from the hospital.

I am one of the very few people in a situation that may be deemed as "passable" in this storm. My home is at 55 ft of elevation, well away from the shore. There are no large trees anywhere near my property, nor are there any sketchy sheds/outbuildings that could go flying. Roof, siding, and fence are pretty much brand new and are all built to Miami Dade hurricane code.

All that said, I am still taking this VERY seriously. We are likely going to see triple digit wind speeds. I have a good generator, fuel, propane, and a large quantity of water and food for the inevitable post storm outages. Fuel in both modern vehicles, as well as the Charger just in case. Tonight and tomorrow I am boarding up the windows thoroughly, and getting ready for a bumpy ride Wednesday and Thursday. After the storm has cleared, I will be first up to help out family, friends and neighbors who may be in need. I'll report in after. To anyone else in the area, stay safe.

Back in 2004, we had back to back hurricanes. The neighborhood was a mess, lots of work before and after. Being outside, neighbors that I had never met before stopped to chat or offer help. I said to one or two that after this calms down, why don’t we have a block party. The neighbor across the street had a partially cleared lot and we decided to have it there. We set up tables and chairs barbecue grills. We had a lot of people there. Good times.

Good point, I should have said north of Tampa. Just tired of moldy drywall, wracked windows and door frames and a pool shell sitting 2ft above the surrounding deck. I've got family from key west to gulf shores. So someone's evacuating every year.

Is this joking around? Creating hurricanes and only targeting red-states? They’re along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, AL, MS, LA, FL, TX, suffering hurricanes as long as the records go back. Blue-states along the Atlantic coast have had hurricanes. Seems that a few blue-states have had their share of being whacked by fires, floods, and earthquakes. Could it be from climate change? Not debating man-made, just that the climate is...changing. The water temp in the Gulf of Mexico is the highest it has ever been since records were kept.
Actually, I was merely pointing out that if anything was of plausible credibility here, something just strikes me as off!!! Yes, the East and Gulf coasts are the main hurricanes, but the opposite cyclonic effect of weather in the Pacific is Typhoons which basically do the exact same thing. If in fact this is just the weather changing due to normal weather changes...ie. Climate Change, then the history of Earth has experienced just such occurrences. When I mentioned the Rad States in that area, what with the current administration's total disregard of the disasters including Palestine Ohio to the impacted hurricane States being offered basically zero FEMA help other than a measly 750.00 to those impacted, it just strikes me as very odd...cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

I heard that if you think hard enough and maybe, I don’t know,,pray, you can actually move the storm to another area, where it will affect someone else.

:praying:
Well, at least it appears more are heeding the call for evacuation this time anyways, thank heavens.
Live feeds are showing most of the major routes outta there clogged up with folks.

We have a house in Clearwater. The person living there won’t leave. Stubborn old guy who has done this before. He did put up the wood over the windows and well knows they are predicting winds over 100mph.
Only 1 mile from the beach.

I just got to work. Here all day to finish preparations, home tonight for a few hours sleep and then loading into the EOC at 5am tomorrow. 12hrs on and 12hrs off sleeping on the floor in an empty office. That will be the routine until things stabilize. Hopefully sleeping in my bed on Friday night or Saturday. For those in the southwest Florida region....get out now if you can, be safe. This one is gonna be nasty. My wife left early this morning, heading to Atlanta.

You're right Bill. Too many coincidences to be of "natural" origin. I wonder how many know the US Government hold "Patents" on "weather manipulation" ? The US Naval Fleet also has Ships outfitted for this purpose ???

Got my fingers crossed its north of Ft Myers. I know that's probably cruel but we've got family that have finally recovered from Hurrican Ian and I'm not sure Sanibel and Bonita Springs family can handle another one this soon.
We're with you on that, but Not wishing it on anyone else either. My wife's Mom, Bro, and Sister are all in Ft Myers, along with her retirement getaway, that I spent about 7 months rehabbing after Ian, with Zero assistance from FEMA, or Any Govt Agency. Was thinking this might be a post holiday season of "retirement", on the Gulf, but ???

I've heard a couple radio and TV references the past few days of "hundred year" storm.

Great.

I'm pretty far inland but this is worst case scenario for me.
Most time over water
Shortest path to me

Supposed to make landfall as cat 3 but....that's IF the windshear they are expecting takes effect.
We've had cat 1 and 2 winds here but this could still be a cat 3 over my place.

House is paid off next month.
Guess I will get a HELOC and install hurricane windows.

We've been stockpiling bacon when it's BOGO or B2GO.
Had 9 packs.
Cooked 4 of them this morning.
We can eat cold bacon, but we can't eat raw bacon.

We're on the Atlantic side and Milton is projected to still be a Cat 1 when it gets here. Thankfully the track takes it just north of us and we should only get TS winds, but we need to watch it closely over the next 24 hrs to make sure it takes that turn north.
Praying for those in its path. This is a really bad storm.

If it's going North of you, you'll get the heavy rain as well as the high wind.

Honestly, we may just want to consider turning FL into a nature preserve. Its always been a risk to live in hurricane alley, but forward looking trends are not good.

Good luck to all who are in the path.
It's sad to hear, but I wouldn't have the stomach to deal with this constant battle with mother nature.
I hope for the best, and at the end of the day, we're all Americans.

Have never prayed for something to die but have prayed for this thing to do just that.....

Yea. We're expecting a lot of rain and wind, but nothing like what the Gulf coast or even Orlando will see. They are closing our office tomorrow and Thursday. However, we are expected to work from home as long as we have power and internet.

Our neighborhood already has some minor road/yard flooding from the low that's been sitting just off the east coast. Wouldn't surprise me if the roads are completely flooded after Milton passes. Good thing is we're inland and the house sits about 3' above grade so it would take a substantial amount of rain to reach the house.

Really glad we put in a whole house generator a few years ago. It's been worth it just for the peace of mind and not having to bottle water ahead of storms - we're on a well, so no power = no water. I think it will get a workout over the next few days.

Well, they just adjusted the track more south now. Looking more like we will have stronger winds in my area. Trying to figure out where to position things like boat and rv. I never worried too much about storms coming from across the state, but this thing has a different feel about it. Up to 165 now and hasn’t got to that warmer loop current. Come on dry air.
