I remember that well, I was regularly flying interisland on Aloha Airlines back then.

One year later, we had a similar incident and damn near lost the aircraft..

It was a faulty designed cargo door latch. It came loose causing a rapid decompression about an 17 min. out of HNL enroute to AKL (Auckland) while climbing through FL220.

I just saw that Aloha incident on "Air Disasters" series on the Smithsonian Channel. They were lucky that the plane held together and only one person was lost when that happened.

They ran the UAL 811 incident just a few days ago. Very interesting channel.

Then there was the Southwest incident in April this year. Very lucky it wasn't worse than it was.

Per the presenter, the controls were affected as well. Mostly flaps but tail controls were affected.
