Holley EFI with Elec pump, should the old push rod be removed?

Decided to go with Holley Sniper EFI Master Kit, with the inline fuel pump, i was wondering if the mechanical pump's push rod should be removed or if it should stay in place?

Other question is i need to buy fuel tank, lines, sending unit, filler neck etc. Holley recommends 3/8 for main and return, everything i see out there has a 3/8 main and a 5/16 return... how have you guys gotten around this?

First, you never want to run an undersized return line. Larger return, easier on the fuel pump and also the regulator maintaining proper fuel pressure. At least a 3/8" return, equivalent to a 6 AN for our kits.

You can just install a block-off plate if it's a hassle to remove the plug.
 
Yep, take that fuel pump push rod out & use a block-off plate/gasket (or RTV silicone)
 
yeah the Holley kit comes with a block off plate, engine is out so it's easy to remove the push rod now. Hope to have the engine in this weekend.

Guess i'll start looking at aftermarket sending units or something that can be modified for 3/8" loop. Thats my biggest worry.
 
I took the pushrod out when converting to EFI.
What HP level and fuel pump?
I put a spectra CR9CFI EFI fuel tank in the '69 Coronet in 2015 ($366.02 back then, $422.66 now on Amazon.)
This was before Tanks Inc had their EFU fuel tank for the B-body. Not sure the price on that setup.
The Spectra tank has a Walbro 225 LPH pump, 3/8" supply and 5/16" return fittings.
I think the 225 LPH can support about 600 HP? I'm likely between 500-550 HP.
The car was already plumbed with -6 AN lines, so I just have a -6AN to 8mm barb fitting at the gas tank to adapt the return line.
This seems to work fine with my EFI setup.
If you have the fuel pressure creep up at idle then the return is a restriction, but with the higher EFI pressures the smaller return fitting works for me.
Not sure what is out there for the '71-up B-Body. My Charger has a fuel cell in the trunk, with the Hy-Fuel $40019 340 lph pump Kit.
The '71 was originally plumbed with -8AN supply and return for the carb, and with the Milodon 255 GPH pump I was getting fuel pressure creep at idle to about 9 psi. This is where I could have used a larger return line, but I used a pumps by-pass to return a bit of fuel to the tank to fix that.
When I put the EFI on I used -8 to -6 reducer fittings to plumb it with -6AN supply and return at the pump and FiTech TBI. The -8 lines remained under the car.
With this setup, I tried a Walbro 450 LPH pump and the stock FiTech regulator. The regulator was able to handle the extra flow of the larger pump (no fuel creep.) The only reason I would need the 450 lph pump is if I switch to E-85. That should support around 800 HP on E-85.
 
Are you wanting to put the Sniper on the '74 Charger? Not sure if anyone makes a EFI tank for the '71 - '74s. You may have to modify your pickup/sending unit to work. Might talk with Holley or Tanks, Inc.
 
I'm curious on the '71-up tanks? Not sure there is room in top of the tank for a low profile in-tank kit like the Hy-Fuel #40015, of if the tank would have to be notched and welded for clearance? I don't know if the pump sock on these is like Holley hydro-mat, or if the hydro-mat would be needed since the stock tanks don't have the EFI sump?

I just noticed the '71 tanks (CR10A) are different than the'72-73 (CR10B), and the '74-76 (CR21A) B-Body fuel tanks.
 
No one seems to make an EFI Tank for a 74 (CR21A), which means i have to mod the sending unit since no one makes a 3/8 main/return. Maybe i'm overthinking it and a 5/16 wouldn't affect it much right by the tank. What are we talking? 5-8 inches of 5/16 line in the full loop?

Weld into the top of the factory tank or whichever tank you're currently using. Then add a simple 6AN socketless hose barb fitting.

That CR21A tank with the bubble top is quite a bit more expensive than the CR10 versions.
I was looking at the CR10 for my Charger because the 20-gallon fuel cell takes up too much room in the trunk.
I would not worry about the 5/16" return as it works for me, but if you are going to have to modify the tank anyhow, may as well make it 3/8".
Sounds like you might use a frame mount pump?
If you can weld, I would modify the tank for an in-tank pump.
