I just got a fiberglass hood for my Coronet and also got lighter springs for the hinges. I'm not sure how to change them without loosing a finger
The new springs are smaller diameter and I'm not sure I really need to change them either. The hood has a scoop added. Any ideas?

I have never done that but you should be able to use 2 pieces of ready rod and bars between with nuts to unload springs

Take the metal hood off, now grab a pry bar/screw driver, use it against the hinge and slide it inbetween the two and slowly pry the spring from the hinge. Reverse the process for the lighter weight spring.

Use a fan belt. We do it all the time. Loop into one of the hooks, lower the hood down to get some leverage and pull.

It is way too easy. You don't have to use pry bars, remove the hood.

I did mine you need a large flat blade and a pair of channel lock locking pliers use the flat head to hold the u at one end and grab the lip of it with the pliers and pull it out and up. I did mine with the hood up and on do one at a time and replace it with the softer spring as you go.

I liked the fan belt idea. I used a super heavy duty plastic tie wrap. They came off easy. Thanks guys.
Next picture should be of the hood installed.

looks nice!where did you get the hood,if you dont mind me asking?new motor has no chance of fitting under stock hood for my 67.

thanx for the info.pins are a must safety issue with glass hoods.i had one come open on me at speed, not fun at all.get some pins.

Well I got the hood pin kits. Black anodized aluminum pins with black plates for the hood. I want black retainers too but can't find any on line. Summit or anywhere. Any clue where I might find some?

Can't help you on the anodized fittings but the hood and scoop look great!

Well I drilled the front edge for the mldg but the original retainer studs aren't long enough. Does anybody know if anybody has them with longer studs?

Post a picture of the back of the molding showing the existing studs.

The retainer on the right is the original. The one on the left is from a piece of dash trim and it barely pokes through

Check out www.clipsanfasteners.com (Page Auto Parts). They have an extensive website that has pictures. FYI: I had a similar situation where some of the studs on my center hood spear were missing. I ground the back of the spear down so that there was clean metal. I then took some 10-24 screws that were the right length and ground the heads down till there was a flat on each. I used JB Weld and epoxied the screws in place. 24 hours later I installed the spear and it's been there since. Just don't over torque the screws. This is a Plan B if you can't find the ones you want.

Thanks Dave. For both the link and the idea on how to make my own.
Didn't find anything I could use there so I'll be seeing what I can do to fab some tommorow.

I was able to remove the old studs from the retainers Then I just went to the hardware store and bought some 8-32 stainless Phillips screws. jB welded them in place. Just going to use nyloc nuts.
