Hot August Nights Reno/Sparks Nevada Aug 7-12-2018.

Lets just say things look like winter in the skies. Visibility is not the greatest. It is hazy but there isn't any major smoke smell. there is also a big fire about 20-30 mins north of Reno which isn't helping the situation in addition to the Ca fires.

We will be going through Alturas then hit 395, as far east as we can go. Last year that was a big staging are for the fire fighters. High desert all the way baby and a good road with no CHP to speak of. I am sure Reno is a smokey bitch.

Is there a lot of smoke drifting into Reno? I could see how that would absolutely happen.
Smoky as a mofo in N. Reno and going to be all week. Read my post today on the "How hot is CA" topic, I posted a warning about air quality. Pray for a major prevailing heavy wind from the East to blow all this smoke/**** out over the ocean, please!

You must have a dead nose, I can smell it and I'm a reformed smoker.
I am sure Reno is a smokey bitch.
That's a understatement to say the least. It's giving me a low grade headache.

I live and work in Carson City. The smoke is the worst that I have seen in the last 6 years. Yesterday you could hardly see the houses a quarter mile down my street.

Today is a little better. A co-worker of mine has several friends in the Sheriff's department. One of them sent him a text today to tell him that while driving through Reno this morning, he could barely see the signal lights right in front of him to stop.

I am 1.5 miles from the foothills / mountains east of Lake Tahoe. All day today we could not see them at all. Right now this moment they are visible. Tomorrow will be the same.

It is worse in Reno because the area of Reno sets in a bowl and all of the smoke settles there. It mostly blows through Carson City towards the east and quite often shoots north through our valley right up to Reno.

It will take some major winds and rain to clean this mess up.

Mike

God Bless all who are struggling with these fires and those families who have lost property and loved ones.

God Bless the fire fighters.

We will have to make a decision by Sunday about reservations and trip plans. Thoughts and prayers with those affected. wilmacmike, keep us posted.

I aint skeerd, the runner was just 10 days out of paint last year and ran like a top all the way. Hint has to do with my user name. I might get Black Balled from FBBO.
Uhhh...No thanks. NOBODY wants to see your balls, no matter what color they are.

This morning is the clearest it's been all week in N. Reno, we'll see as the day progresses. Looks more worse to the South then the North. Still mid to high 90's but the smoke intensify the rays.

Much clearer earlier here in Carson also.
We had some high winds yesterday afternoon and today. It is now again getting very smokey. I could see the mountains around lunch, but now they are disappearing again.

I got a little late afternoon haze, this morning is much clearer. I see a couple small smoke clouds on the CA. side, still getting hot as a mofo in the aft-noon.

Oh ya, much clearer today. Tonight is actually the first night in almost two weeks that all of the stars are visible. Looking pretty good. Another fire did start up mid day somewhere around Woodfords off of Highway 88 south of us here in Carson.

I have not yet heard what the situation with it is. Just hope and pray it does not get out of hand.

Lookin good right now. Gearing up and a Go unless dramatic change.

It was nice this Morn, but got nasty around 3 in PM. About 6pm, upper level winds kicked up and raise some smoke. My eyes are still buggin me. **** Happens! With the fires? I guess it depends on the winds, and how the Bork the area. Y'all drive safe, commin up!
FWI for the early birds that get here. Mon & Tues, Bordertown RV/ Casino has $1 Tacos all day. Other specials throughout the week. It's a sore Dick for travelers? You can't beat It! Contact me PM for Info, maybe Cr8crashr and I can do a Mopar grill out?

The smoke has been real bad today, and is as bad if not worse right now than it has been the last two weeks. The smell of smoke is stronger than in the past.

The smoke has been blown up from the south with some very strong winds.

Still do not know much about the fire near Woodfords. It's actually supposed to be closer to Markleeville. I was told today that this fire was out, then I had been told it is still burning.
Dennis if I can fit it in tomorrow I will take a drive up 88 into Woodfords and check it out.

I may also ride up into Reno and compare the smoke situation to what we have here in Carson.
