Well, my wife and I attempted to drive out to Reno today after visiting the Farmers Market in Carson city this morning.
We got as far as the southern end of Washoe lake in Washoe valley, maybe 8 to 10 miles north of us. The smoke coming into the Jeep through the A/C was too much for my wife. So we turned around and drove out to Woodfords and then into Markleeviile.
Our whole valley is again covered in smoke which is all coming over from California. The fire up near Woodfords has been out since Thursday. We still cannot see the Sierras from our home looking west 1.5 miles.
The level of smoke seems to get worse as you go north, towards Reno. I would say keep a very close eye to the air quality index levels that Dennis had shown. I think that will be your best bet, as the wind out here changes form minute to minute.
All I can tell you it is very bad, and will surely affect the amount of people attending Hot August Nights this year.
This next week could be worse, however it could clear up in one day. I think the containment of the Carr fire near Redding, CA was 35% yesterday. Its a long ways from being put out. They were very concerned about the heavy winds today spreading the fire even more.
I hope you all can make it up here, but surely understand if you wanted to stay away from the terrible smoke.
If all of a sudden the Good Lord decides to blow this smoke away from Reno, I will let you know, as well as I'm sure 69a100 will report also. He has a birds eye view, actually living in that area.
Be safe.
May God show all of my Mopar friends traveling mercies.
God Bless America
Mike
