How do u check push rod length on push rods??

Do you have adjustable rocker arms? It makes the process a little different. Either way, HERE goes.
First you need a pushrod length tool. It has a threaded end that makes the pushrod longer as you unscrew it. You slip it in place of a pushrod and screw down the rocker shaft to spec. Then you unwind the end of the checking tool until it fits tight to the rocker arm. Some lifters require a "preload", this means the pushrod needs to actually slightly compress the plunger in the lifter by a small amount. Some agree with .020 as a number. If you have non adjustable rocker arms, it may be tricky to determine. WITH adjustables, you do as previously stated, THEN set the adjuster between 1/4 and 1/2 turn tighter. THIS sets the preload.
You then remove the checking tool and measure. It is the WAY it is measured that can also be tricky. Some guys wrap tape around the adjuster and mail it to a pushrod manufacturer. I didn't want to waste the $22 I spent on the tool, so I looked at several sites to determine how to correctly measure the length and THEN took my checker to the Summit Racing store to compare. It worked out fine for me.

Ok. Think i got it. I thought with hydraulics we used to go to zero lash then tighten down 1 1/2 turns on the rockers. That was on cheves tho

You need to make sure the cam is in the right spot as well and then check the intake and exhaust.
It also kind of hard to do correctly without using a solid lifter of the same height ....
