Took my wife's Avalanche (please no insults) to the local transmission shop two weeks ago. It was making a rubbing kind of noise when in Park, but it shifted fine, up down, reverse everything except that noise, it's the 4L60 transmission, 2 wheel drive, 5.3L engine. Had the torque converter replaced 14k miles ago, also fluid and filter changed a month ago.
These guys tell me the clutches were worn and showed them to me, ok, I agree there. Now the guy tells me they can't figure out what else is wrong with it! It's not rocket science, they could have rebuilt the entire thing in 3-4 days time. He did tell me to get a rental car for which he will deduct the cost from repair cost, which he said would not exceed $1800 max no matter what. I did get the rental car but just don't know what else to do at this point!!!!:BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Cost my sister 900 to have her 6 speed in 2010 Chrysler t&d rebuilt I did the remove and re install

I feel for you...But,,I still won't sell you my old truck !!!

$2400 for my van. pulled my Tahoe and it cost $800

the transmission repair business is a tricky one ,is it a transmission shop only or general repair .
there used to be so many back in the day now , it s limited .i have to bring mine back to the shop the lock up keeps coming on and off when driving
good luck

I don't get why they were holding you up with the question about what was wrong.:realcrazy:
If they had it apart on the bench they should know how to reassemble it to proper working order.
Some mysteries are never solved. You should be back on the road wondering about it instead of waiting for a verdict.

The 4L60 have a problem with the sun gear sometimes called the sun shell they fracture because good old GM they put to light of weight of trans in them my sons ate his trans twice in his so now he owns a dodge

Our Grand Cherokee's transmission puked in December. I think we had it back and running in 3 days. That included diagnosing it, having it transported to Milwaukee, R&R'd there, and transport back home. And, it was over a weekend. The place that fixed it has rebuilts in stock and just popped in a new one. 2 weeks is a long time, I'd say.

being someone who runs a lg shop, 2 weeks is plain nuts. is it a small mom and pop shop or a chain? if chain, its time to complain to upper management. we do trans here and we sublet to a rebuilder. still only takes 4 days max.
