How many HEMI cars do you see in San Francisco commute traffic?

I can tell you there was at least one last night. I had to take a customer back to the air port and figured I'd take her back in style. The weather was absolutely gorgeous; windows down, and a few shots from the drivers seat on my way back traveling on HWY 280, 19th Ave., through Golden Gate Park, intersection of Haight Ashbury and finally the Bay Bridge approach in bumper to bumper traffic. The car did well overall and I got several thumbs up including one form an old Chinese guy in a Prius while stopped on 19th Ave. He rolled down his window and asked if it was a 66! Then complemented me on the cars appearance. This goes to show not all Prius drivers are ******** and some actually recognize a real car when they see one. hemidrive1.JPGhemidrivepark.JPGhemidriveha1.JPGhemidriveha2.JPGhemidriveha3.JPGhemidrivetrafic.JPG

:iamwithstupid: Very cool Meeps, you a brave man, just driving in S.F. traffic, let alone in that beautiful 66 Hemi Charger... I want a ride into the airport like that...LOL... must have cost a small fortune in fuel too...LOL...

lucky the enviro nazi's didn't getcha! In that car I would have been too tempted to get my "bullitt" on!!

I recognize that traffic jam lol Must have been fun to take the charger out glad it did well.

Im with Hemi Rebel.... I am shocked someone didn't run up behind you in traffic with a portable emissions tester and fax the results in for an immediate air strike on your position. I bet you were being painted with a laser the whole time....they just couldn't get there in time.

Here in Cal if the car is over 24 or 30? years old it is exempt from smog checks or inspections as a matter of fact I would be more inclined to think people were gasping at the cars beauty vs. worried about it's carbon emissions. Besides what better smell is there that burnt gas from a hemi? or a mopar for that matter ;)

You guys must have a real grim view of cal lol not all democrats and fags here, the state is pretty big and we all have enough space to stretch out. Please do not start a riot over that just sayin that's all. peace.

I have seen that car up close and its all Meep says it is and more.

Yeah, he's right. There are a lot of bigots and homophobes here as well...

nobody is gonna start a riot. And nobody said anything about dems being "fags". Just saying, cali has the toughest emissions laws of any state. Cars today are built to either federal emissions standard or to California standards. Most all are cali. I was being facetious anyway. He obviously didn't have any issues.

Well, I will say the car is insured for full value so that will take the sting out of a fender bender!

Yep, like Bigman says, it is smog exempt, but like Rebel says there are two kinds of emmisions standards - CA and the rest of the country. I imagine NY or any densly populated area might be pretty strict also and CA is actually more old car friendly than some might think.

I got at least three thumbs up and/or a vocal "nice car" on the trip and one was from some dredlocked hippie on the corner of Haight and Ashbury. I am finding out that any nice old car on the road is guaranteed to make someone's day and bring back some good memories. I suppose I'm performing a public service by driving it. Hmmm, now if some community organizer would organize a way that I could write the trip off on my taxes that would be pretty cool. Instead of medical marijuana it can be medical MoPar. Who's with me?

Very cool HEMI car bud! I do give you guys credit with these cars living in Cal.. Restoring a car in that state i imagine trying with all the regulations. I wonder how many looked at that Charger, and wondered what it was! Its a beauty for sure.

Yeah!!! That is what they are all about.

Regarding smog regulations, unless things have changed a stat can only smog a car to meet the standards the car was built. In 68 that amounted to having a PCV valve. Cal. was always a year ahead of the rest of the nation. I am not even sure that they had to meet any particular hydrocarbon test back then, just mandated what equipment had to be on the car.

That is true as far as I know. You will hear from a lot of people that cars in CA 1975 and older are exempt, meaning they do not have to get the smog check. That DOES NOT mean that you can remove all the originally installed emissions equipment. This might also include leaving intact any aftermarket NOx kits like the Carter ElectroNOx, or the others that just capped off the vacuum advance port. This technically includes cams, carbs, intakes and even tire size and gear ratio because that will change the grams per mile. If for some reason the state will require the older cars to pass smog, there will be a lot of people scrambling to find that 50 state legal carb, and those Ford and GM owners will be paying $1000.00 for the smog pump and hoses they threw away ten years ago. I'm not saying such legislation is around the corner, but do not underestimate the government. They are not stupid by any means but they are sure sleazy and corrupt. Keep your original equipment on the shelf just in case!

Your a brave man running around in all that. I've been the there on those streets (but not in my HEMI car). Way cool!
