How many new vehicles have you bought?

I have no idea, every three years since 1978 and then some in between

Maybe I'll get a Scat Pack for me before production ends (2023?); Challenger or Charger. Have to test drive a Challenger again.
 
None for me either in 26 years of driving. I typically buys cars in the 2-3 year old range mostly so that I don't get hit with the depreciation as others has stated.

Me too. I have bought 3 year old vehicles. My brain has a hard time with absorbing the big depreciation that occurs in the first 3 years of car ownership. (It's what I call. "Minnesota cheap.")
Buying new is hard for me to do too because of that but I couldn't find ANYTHING used that was close to being what I wanted when I bought my 92 Dakota V8 truck. Got a Sport with the 6x9 mirrors (a buddy at the dealership did that) being I was going to be towing a boat at the time. That was one Dakota that I should have kept along with my 71 Cuda and a 70 440 RT Challenger rag top! Oh well.

Bought new '95 Ram 3500 Cummins . Still have it, 220,000 mi., barely broke in. Don't hardly need it anymore.
I don't need my 97 2500 Cummins either but it ain't going anywhere. Had a guy that offered me 7k for it recently but.....naw. It has 139,800 (to the mile) on it and the dash is finally caving in but I'm keeping it. About to buy one of those dash caps for it if they are still available.

My 2007 3500 Cummins is needed to pull my race trailer. A friend brought his new Chevy 2500. With the upgraded 6.2l and 13,000 lb tow package. Calling my dually "Truck with training wheels." I said "Thats cute." But my race trailer is 10,000+ lbs empty. "You're cutie is barely qualified to move it around. Let alone fully loaded." So you should stay with the it's "Drive in movie" duties. And leave the real work to the big boys? Well that didn't go over well. Those Chevy boy's are so moody? And that's with a Ram. Had it been a Ford? Their heads actually fall off! I'm not sure where that level of hatred began? But those two camps still are at war!

I bought a new 1969 SuperBee and a new 1977 Chev Suburban. The Sub was such a POS that I have never bought a GM since. Have also always bought used.

'77 Suburban? Ouch. I bet that turned you off. For many years/decades. (Not that there was much worth buying in '77? That was the beginning of the "Dark Times" for US automotive design and quality.)
 
Never anything new off the show room floor. Myself the newest I've every owned and driven has been a 93 W250 Cummins/auto truck. Wife has had a couple vehicles that were in that 3-5 year old range as mentioned.
 
Most of my stuff was bought used with my newest used vehicle being a 97 Dodge 2500 diesel that I bought in 2001 iirc and still have it. Even my first car was a family 'hand me down' but that was only 3 years old and was a 66 Belvedere. My last wife got a new Durango that I surprised her with and it was ordered with just about everything possible for a 2wd but my first new vehicle of any kind for me was an 81 Honda CB750 Custom. Even my first bike was bought used....and I guess I can say my 95 Dakota is a hand me down because I got it in 98 when dad moved on to the happy hunting grounds. The only new vehicles bought for me by me was the bike and a 92 Dakota V8 with 3.90 gears.
1. 1973 Dodge Charger, ordered by me with 318, Rallye Package, G60-15 tires. First new and worst car I have ever owned. Must have been a Monday build.
2. 1977 Datsun B210. Could not get out of it's own way. Second worst car I have ever owned.
3. 1978 Datsun 280Z, Bought it to replace the B210. Great car! Wish I had it now, but the ex-wife got it.
4. 2000 Toyota Camry, V6, 5-speed manual. Still have it with 367,000 miles. Best car that I have owned. Hard to get rid of it since the wife loves it.
4. 2006 Dodge Ram, Cummins with Laramie Package. Still have it and it has 113,00 miles. Needs HVAC blend doors and front locking hubs, which I will do in the near future. This is the last truck I will buy and plan to keep it to the end.
5. 2015 Volkswagen Passat, diesel with 6 speed manual trans. Had the recall work done they gave me $$$$ plus an 11 year or 150,000 mile warranty. Still have it and plan to give it our to grandaughter when she reaches driving age. Great car!

During the same time period, I bought also other (used) vehicles as well. '68 Dart GT, '69 Super Bee, '70 Hemi Challenger, '67 RO23 Belvedere, '79 Power Wagon, '80 Datsun 280ZX, '85 Nissan 300ZX, '91 W250, Cummins, '66 Charger with 383 4-speed.

My wife bought a "new" 1987 Charger not long before we were married. It was a demo that had about 3k miles on it. My first new vehicle was 1994 Dakota Sport 5.2L, 5-spd that I ordered from the local Dodge dealer. We bought a 1999 Chrysler 300M the summer of '98 right after they came out to replace the Charger then bought a new 2001 Dakota R/T and sold the '94 to my brother-in-law. The Chrysler was a nice car, but it had a lot of new model problems so we traded it in on a new 2004 Durango Limited. That Durango was replaced 4 yrs ago with a used 2014 Durango Limited. The R/T started having transmission problems 2 yrs ago so I started looking for a used truck, but they were almost as much as new so I ended up buying a new 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn QC and then replaced the transmission in the R/T. So 6 new cars over the last 34 yrs.

My brother always liked buying ‘new’. Geezuz, new trucks, cars, bikes, and most of the time he has lost his butt on trade-ins. But, wants to buy new and gets concerned if his vehicles get too many miles on them despite taking extreme care of them. He is a great mechanic being in the trade in his younger days and restoring a rare ’77 Kawasaki recently that was some accomplishment.

I stopped trading in cars about 30 years ago selling on my own. The last half-dozen or more times getting a trade-in quote…I sold ‘em on my own for at least a grand or more each time. I have a few old car bud’s who buy new or will lease their daily rides. I’ve got most of my receipts for car repairs I’ve had done or done myself for 25 years. The trade-offs on those costs vs buying new aren’t even close as I’ve figured. My wife was complaining about one car I bought (I mentioned in a prior post) that accumulated $8,000 in repairs over the 120k I drove it. Granted it had some issues that I thought were over the norm; but I reminded her…we got that car for over $17,000 less with just 10k on it than had I bought it new and more of the repairs we paid for would have been out of a new car warranty anyway. I’m sure there are advantages buying new including the gotta have new thing – but with my checks on costs I think I’m well ahead…

We have purchased a new three vehicles: 1996 Honda Civic for a high school graduate (good car); 2004 Toyota 4Runner (sold it shortly after to pay bills); 2009 Toyota Prius. When still fairly new, some nut ran into the rear of the Prius at high speed (stopped at an intersection). It still ran and moved but was "totaled" by the insurance company, smashed the rear end in like an accordion.
 
People keep asking me why I keep on driving 'old' cars and I quit telling them because they don't get it. First off, I can't afford to buy a new car plus my old cars keep on running!! What else can I say to them lol
Newest car we have is an ’09 Sonata (our 2nd Sonata and first foreign car I ever bought). Could have bought a newer one when we got the ’09 some five-six years ago; but liked the 6 motor the 1st one had (the 6 was discontinued in 2010 in that model). These rides have been just outstanding. Gave the 1st one, an ’07, to my daughter and she’s still getting around fine in it with 198k on it driving **** city streets. Body has many hurts; but little rust to speak of. When I drive it – it still handles tight and can’t hear the motor run. She took my prodding to have it serviced like a religion, lol.

You bought a Prius?? Jk Jk Jk. Ran against one in my 95 V6 Dakota and that thing stayed beside me. Didn't expect that at all lol
