how much are your dogs

Ruby is a American Staffordshire Terrrier. We got her from the local shelter . Her owners kept her in a crate solely to breed her. They dumped her in a cornfield in the middle of winter . We paid the shelter $250.00 for her adoption fee . Absolutely the best money we ever spent . If you like living with a four legged version of a very energetic toddler who only has two speeds ..full tllt and coma

Dog: $0.00; showed up at the house begging to be adopted. A heart of gold.
Food: $50 per month
Vet: $400 per year.
Companionship: Priceless
______________________________________
Total acquisition and ownership costs for my German Shepherds (overseas German and Czech bloodlines) was markedly higher. They were totally worth it.

I wanted an intimidator, I also wanted a puppy.......I have adopted dogs in the past, and will do so again if the situation is right

Rebel was a steal at 1200 5 years ago.......we are thinking about letting him be a daddy, and having a Rebel Jr around the house; but he eats about $250 a month and rising, and I'm not sure I want to double that number...... Big dogs are economic decisions well after you bring them home

You go Reb!

I wanted an intimidator...
Like I posted earlier, dogs mean different things to different people.
Me, I'd never ask or demand any other living thing to protect me.
That's not fair to them - I want them to enjoy just being dogs and a family member.
JMO.

Big dogs are economic decisions well after you bring them home...
"Little-r" ones ain't any different - at least, if you're a good steward of them.
We've spent a few $thousand on medical for Sasha already in this lifetime (she tends to get
into stuff outside sometimes, dog has no fear of anything...)
Doesn't matter - we don't keep track of, nor do we fuss about, medical cost for ANY family member
in this house.

RESCUE RESCUE RESCUE ! $350 W vetting/shots ect. Around here Sables are in the 4-5k range. GSD's since '84

There is no doubt he is worth it. Titan is on medicine that is over 300 a month, I would quit eating before I would make him go without his meds!

I have had rescue foster pointer/lab mix
& a few other labs from time to time
& a purebred AKC papered Labrador Retriever Elvis,
my beloved Lord Budnicks (RIP) distant relative,
I paid $500 for Elvis, on a recommendation from the local vet
to the breeders, local people...
I had 2nd pick of the litter...
Elvis & Bubba 7-27-2015 8-weeks on deck (2).JPG

his sibling Presilla, same litter nevermind the date stamp is wrong it was
on my Birthday July 12th 2015
they were born June 3rd 2015
Elvis 7-12-2015 sibling Prisilla.JPG

his littermates
Elvis 7-12-2015 siblings Elvis front left.JPG

most purebred/registered & papered, Labs no matter the color
black, yellow (usually white), chocolate (like Buddy & Elvis)
they all can come from the same colored mother or father
papered registered dogs,
basically, usually start at around
a started dog, some training started at like $1,800- $3,000+ min.

usually like $800 min. for purebred 'papers or not'...

5 y/o Elvis Budnicks U--
Elvis 5 years old on deck.JPG

Elvis's dad, High Sierra Hucklebee
he was like 3 y/o IIRC
Elvis Dad High Sierra Huckleberry (1).JPG

there used to be a Labrador breeding farm,
Paradise Ranch, Livermore Calif., they never advertised
they never had any problems selling any of them
& they only have females/adult dogs & humans (run by a couple of :gay: ladies)
I used to take Lord Budnicks (I still miss him) to let him get laid,
he sired 81 pups
*$800-$1,000 min. for majority Black pups
*$1,000- $1,200 for majority Yellow pups
*$1200-$1,500 for majority Chocolate pups
(Higher #'s were for majority females)
breed & got either $800+ per/screw/per female if it took
or *'pick of males from the liter/s'
*was my negotiations
I usually always had a family member or a hunting buddy that wanted one...
or
I'd have to bring him back to try again, he loved that place :poke:

He had great linage-bloodlines/great field trials credentials & waterdog lines
(was not a 'fat short' English lab)
he was a golden-eyed Tudor, direct descendants
from Labrador/Noviscotia
it was humane way more natural breeding, sort of free/open-range
not in cages etc., except for whelping etc. or isolation for breeding...

they usually sold for a min. of
$1,200 for Black males each
$1,500 for yellow males each
$1,800 for chocolate males each
no training at 8 weeks
&
$1,500 for Black females each
$1,800 for Yellow females each
$2,200 for chocolate females each
no training at 8 weeks

started dogs (min. training to like 16 weeks)
were dbl to triple that price structure, $2,500 & up

finished dog (fully trained, field or water 26 weeks (?) were like starting at
$5k males & $5.5k females, no matter the color

since I foster
I can get dogs for free, they always try & have me take at least 1
I specialized in labs/retrievers, usually human-friendly dogs
I'd train/tame them, teach them to walk on a leash etc,
(surprised how many dogs, even purebreds that have no basic training,
not getting up on furniture & counters, table etc., stealing food,
house trained, you know basic discipline, lazy owners
)
& the rescue org. find them good forever homes
all dogs are much happier when they have a pack leader/order,
when trained well...

Bubba, he's a happy dog now living on an Almond farm in Oakdale
he loves to run, perfect forever home for him...
I miss him too...
Bubba 7-26-2015 on deck.JPG

I used to do it a lot more, than I do now too
My dad is getting on in years 85, trip hazards & all
& it's cold or hot here, both extremes
so the dogs are mostly trained to be inside dogs
2 dogs at a time is enough for me & my limit...

My sister does it for old military dogs, washouts or just dogs
they don't want or out of their usage age now...
Mostly all Belgian, Dutch or German working Shepherd breeds
usually trained in 'the German Language' too...
They need to get used to the real world, not just kenneled 20 hrs a day
& only let out when they work, do their jobs...
Not in 'go kill' mode...
She's back way off to since she became a politician, doesn't have the time...
It's sad what these animals go thru...
I know it's better than a human life/soldier lost too
They really do well with former veterans...
That's why she does/did it...

Dog Lab Recue doesn't mean damaged -they were let down by humans.jpeg

#6 Siberian Husky rescued from any of the Humane Society’s in WI

This one came south of Milwaukee
Average $250-$350

I used to do the same thing with American Staffordshire
or Bull Terriers too, way back in the 80's
Truly a misunderstood breed/s...
& Alfred Farton Urinal 'the Staff, stud'
& Honey Brindle the (female) 'Bull Terrier, bitch'

I also had a Black Lab Male 'The Duke",
mid-late 80's, named after John Wayne, lived 14+ years
my duck & mostly for a pheasant hunting/trials dog
(I traded a $700+ L frame 586 6" S&W .357 Revolver/custom for him from
a breeder, an Electrician I know/knew, from one of my job-sites
)
'Duke', sired quite a few pups too, 8 litters IIRC
My older sister Lori, a VMD had a female yellow lab Duquesa
It's strange most of their pups, were chocolate in color

Dogs were a whole lot cheaper for papered purebreds AKC/UKC
back then like $300-$500 the people I knew

some of my best dogs were free or rescues

wife went shopping yesterday, so today just happens to be "cook a turkey" day........ an old guy once told me to cook the turkey upside down, keeps the white meat moist; it works! ........ anyway, I break it down and freeze about half of it......lasts about 2 weeks, this one is a little light maybe 10-12 days worth

I have come to hate turkey, although I can stomach a sandwich now and then if I have cranberry sauce ....... lasagna for Thanksgiving please :monkeyleft:

he usually gets a can of tuna with his turkey and kibble, but on cook a turkey day he gets the goody bag

Zeke and Toga replaced Coco and Neko who we lost 2/4/21 due to age/arthritis [coco] and lymphoma [neko]. They cost us nothing. Coco was left behind at a reservation after a powwow, Neko showed up when a dog fighting ring got busted. He was a year old, maybe, when we found him. Had scars on him and major mental issues plus digestive problems. We figured he got used as a bait dog. Sweet disposition, he was never aggressive, just the opposite. Scared of even Poodles when we first got him. Took awhile for him to realize he was not going to get his butt kicked. Coco was a lick monster. They were quite the pair too.
