So I’m looking to replace the fender tag missing on one of my 1971 Charger R/T project. I have vin tag, but the fender tag is missing. I don’t want to add options, but I do want a tag that closely looks stock to how it came originally, even if the tag looks incorrect. I wanted to figure out the how the sequence of numbers and letter would be put on it. Maybe someone can figure hou how it’s supposed to look so I can have someone make a tag semi-correctly. Since it’s missing broadcast sheet, all I have to go by is what parts are on the car and what the second owner said it had for options.
Options are as followed.
440-4spd
Dana 60 track pack
Ramcharger Hood
Gold paint, black body strope
Front spoiler, no rear spoiler
Std rear valance
Black bucket seat interior

Console with recorder
Rallye gauges, not sure if it has a tach
Am-fm radio
Believe it had steel wheels, but unsure if those were 14’ or 15’ inch.
Clear glass.

Any info and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It's a cool car. Just take as many detailed pics as you can to cover your *** and let the next guy make a Fraud Tag and get hassled about it.

Nah dog, I’m good. Just want something for my personal use. Plan on turning the car into a race car and just want people to freak when they see what the car was optioned with before I modify it.

I think you are SOL if you don't have a broadcast sheet. Last I knew the places that make the tags won't do them if it's not verifiable which is understandable. Have fun with it building it the way you want.

Where the car was built will also determine the layout of the fender tag

Example a St Louis build fender tag or tags will bee loaded with most options

71Superbee.com is a wealth of info on fender tags , options , broadcast sheet layout , fender tags

And like mentioned, without the broadcast sheet or factory tags , it’s all a guess anyways

^^^^^ ....anything made without a Broadcast sheet and original fender tag (damaged but readable) is just fraudulent and is not reliable.

Most people with a conscience won't sleep at night after doing that. It will always be there and when you least expect it, trouble is on your doorstep.

Just enjoy the car and forget the Fender Tag....once they're gone, they are gone.

More options:

This is not the fender tag you're looking for.

Fender tag; now that's a name I've not heard in a long time...a long time.

Has anybody done a tag themselves, if so, can you post some info? I’m thinking the car has a pretty late production date, so it could be St Louis plant. Either way, as long as it looks good enough to piss off purist's and wanna be car guys, I’m happy with any inperfections in the tag.

Anyone sourcing a tag has an agenda.

Oh, I have a bunch of blank ones that I’ve saved from the 1990’s. Planning saving those just to put on a car blank, to, you know, mess with tag readers at shows. There are now repro tags, so I don’t mind using one of those because, like I said, I’m not worried about it being correct.

The hilarious part is someone getting all excited about it and offering an absurd amout of money. Lots of laughs anyways.

Doubt it. It’s a race car that will probably have no original mechanicals parts left on it when it’s done. Don’t even care that’s it’s supposedly one of 12 made/optioned the way it was.
Plant would be from vin, so WS23U1A******.

Since you can't prove what it was and since it won't be what it was or even is now, there's no reason to put any time and effort into making the tag. You can't make people freak out because they will be looking at a bogus suspect tag to begin with.

Just go ahead and make up really impressive coding for a fake tag. Make it super track pack Hemi car with A/C, cruise, 8 track AND cassette, PS, PDB, power seats, sunroof, etc. etc. That will make people freak.

You think so?
It must suck to be so cynical. I'm not that way.
There was a guy at DodgeCharger.com that was making fender tags with a 3D printer. The tags were plastic and the font was quite different so these were novelty items, not to be intended as genuine reproductions. I have considered getting one for my red car that has had all sorts of deviations from original equipment. My "agenda" was to use codes that were never used like E95 for the 495" engine, D25 for the 5 speed manual, etc.
Not everyone is out to cheat others, man.
