hp to weight ?

ok so after reading someone elses hemi thread i started thinking about this, i had a 3000lbs rice burner that i was pushing around 350 - 400hp at the engine im not sure exactly what the car ran but i do know that i could easily beat cars that ran in the 13's so im guessing my car ran in the 12's. i got rid of that car to get a real car so now i have a 3600lbs. 69 gtx so im wondering how much hp i need to get back to a 12 sec car i know gearing also takes part in this problem as well but what got me thinking was a post in regards to the choice of using a big block hemi as opposed to using the new 6.1 stroked the comment was made that if the 6.1 was pushing 600hp that 426 would need to be pushing 700 to be equal just to make up for the extra 300lbs. so if this is true and it takes 100hp to make up for 300lbs would that mean im going to need around 550 to 600 hp to get back to a 12 sec car?
 
No. My Challenger weighed 3960 with me in it and ran [email protected] with NO traction. By the numbers (I think) it figured to 419 to the wheels.

Was a 440 Six Pack 4 speed with 4.10 Dana on PolyGlas tires
 
gears, gears, gears !! ... a strong big block, not even a hemi , is not hard to get into the 12's. as long as you have a good gear ratio and a good running car,you'll be ok.

3000 lbs / 400 HP = 3600 lbs / (X)

3600 x 400 = 1440000 / 3000 = 480 HP.

7.5 lbs / HP

The short answer is I agree with the posts above. My 68 383 RR weighed 3700 lbs with me in it and ran 12.65 @ 107 with 8" slicks. 370 HP to the wheels.

lol about 200lbs. i dont know the exact weight of my car i was told its about 3600lbs 69 gtx 440 4spd

but anyway 4spd (non hemi) trans 8 3/4 rear that i plan on probably running 410's tires are mickey thompson indy profile n50's so 28" tall 11.8" wide

so im hearing that i want around mid 400hp to the wheels i know you loose a bit through the trans and rear so if i was using an engine dyno where would i want the engine hp to be at im trying to get an etimate from a local mopar engine builder but he builds per engine hp not rear wheel hp
 
E bodies are heavier than (most) B bodies. The Challenger (with the lighter T/A hood) weighed 3720 empty
 
You shouldn't need over 500 HP to get the job done.

Proper gearing and suspension and building the drive train around the car weight is mandatory.
