humming coming from the differential under throttle

I was getting a thumping sound from the rear under throttle over 40mph..it would quiet down after i let off the gas.

Pulled the center section and axles yesterday..dropping them off later today...hopefully it won't kill my wallet, and be back before the season starts! wish me luck

Not that mechanically inclined, but the case (742) was in good shape, the ring/pinion were not set up correct by whoever set it up..there was too much play, the clutch plates were in good shape and most reusable, the axles were true, so i can have him clean it up, reuse the 391's, $600, or swap in a set of 355's or 373's for $860...not sure what to do.

if he reuses the 391's he says it might be louder than it was before...there's no markings on the ring/pinion for mfr..he says usually means bottom of the barrell...

I cannot reiterate this enough......manufacturer hasn't a hill of beans to do with noise. It's all in the set up. He's simply tellin you that to cover his *** in case he gets the pinion gear depth wrong.

well...all jokes aside- got the center section back in last night...started the break-in procedure last night..hope to have her back on the road by next week...still have to swap the shifter linkages, tighten up the exhaust, etc.
