Hydramax Hydrolic clutch problem

Hi all,

I need some help. I just installed a TKO 600 into my Coronet, but the clutch isn't working properly.
I purchased the whole kit from American Powertrain including the Hydramax throw-out bearing kit with a quick-time bell-housing. For some reason after pushing the clutch pedal a few times, the throw-out bearing wont return all the way and continues to engage the clutch. Has anyone had this problem? Everything looks to be installed correctly with the correct spacing. I would call American Powertrain but getting anyone on the phone is basically impossible.

Did you measure the distance from the fingers to the bell and then set your bearing accordingly?

^^ what he said, that is very important.
I used to have one of them hydramaxes then when I was on a cruise my pedal went to the floor so I looked underneath and all my hydraulic fluid was leaking out of the bellhousing, the hydramax unit blew its seals, so went back to standard clutch and it is softer to push now

Yes, the measurement I ended up with was 3/16. I'm 99% sure that's not the problem, I literally checked it 4 times. When I look into the bell-housing it looks like the throw-out bearing isn't returned all the way.

Yes, The bearing stays in the same place. I'm stumped!

Sounds like the bearing has over extended or perhaps failed in some way. I'd get AP's opinion since it's their product but it seems like time to pull the trans.

It's possible that you have a big enough bore master cylinder and enough travel that your just over extending the throwout bearing like mentioned . You might be able to simply put a pedal stop in to limit the travel and fix the problem? Unfortunately you still may need to disassemble it to get it to return. With my Viper T56, the stock Viper throw out bearing and a 13/16 bore master cylinder I only need 1 1/2"-2" of stroke to disengage the clutch.
