Hyrdgoon's - project angrybird

Your project is coming along very nicely ! Sound is fantastic ! Your attention to detail will pay off once your up and cruising. I begin work on my baby later this month and will keep you posted.

Quick fix "gotta love em".

I like my "fixes" like I like my women..... Easy!! lol The to-do list is really a short list now... waiting on a few odds and ends (muffler clamps, hood rubber etc...), drop the front end, get alignment, road test and set curb idle. Pending any big surprises I'll have the car home at the end of next week.

Yeah GOON, that "fix" was done Fer Racin' ! ! ! Right ? ?

Khan that right thurrr was a "Racin Fix"!!!!...... FER RACIN'!!!

Thanks KnoGood, I sent you an email the other night just to fill you in on what happened with the motor as I'm sure you also read in this post. I imagine your CME 440 will be sitting for a while yet before fired so I just wanted you to have the lowdown on how mine went. Thanks for the kind words and comments and look forward to seeing your Charger in it's own thread!

As I've mentioned a few times in this thread I'm not the one that's been completing the majority of the work completed on my car. I've tackled a few of the small tasks but as I don't really have a learned skill or knack for the mechanical/bodywork etc nor do I necessarily have the time or want to draw out the process of learning I chose to have someone handle look after my project for me.

I figure if I can put the time that I would spend learning into the car into working or making money I can finance the project and have more time to enjoy it.

The reason I'm stating this is that now that this stage of my project is coming to an end I wanted to acknowledge how lucky I was to find the guy I did to do the work on my car... I had a retired mechanic that just does hot-rods and classics looking after me for the last few years but as he was very "old school" he never much listened to my input or the suggestions I had for my car. This past year I came across a business card left in my car in a parking lot from a guy named Greg of Driven Performance... I went home and googled him and when names like Legendary Motorcar Company and Boothill Automotive Resurrection came up I knew that this guy was use to high dollar/high end restoration work (mine is neither those) What I learned when I got in touch with him is that he decided to go out on his own and work from his own home and as one of his newer clients would give me a very reasonable rate... we agreed for him to do the re-wire only and as we started communicating my vision I handed him over the balance of the project and am glad i did.

I came across a YouTube video today for the project Greg is best known for as the lead builder and wanted to share it with you guys since I feel enormously lucky to have had this guy be the one to take my car to the next level. This is the 56 Hauler... it is the 2013 MegaSpeed Grand Champion (the Canadian version of Sema) and has been touring and taking home trophies everywhere it goes. The video is done to showcase Boothill but you can see Greg acknowledged at around 4:10 and the owner Ron has actually stuck with Greg to continue care for the Hauler and his other projects.

Hope you guys find this as cool as I do!

Well, sometimes coughing up money is allot harder than rolling up your sleeves if you know what I mean. You could be like me and chase your tail in circles fixing your screw up's because you insist on doing things you shouldn't haha. Cool video, that's great you found someone like that to work with you.

Naw...naw....that never happen's LOL!

Hey Goon, it's good to see you give credit where credit is due. Not everyone is a glutton for punishment like some of us. Even though you may not share all the weld burns, metal in the eyes and lungs full of rust...i'm sure you still get to bask in the same benefits like destroyed bank accounts, pissed off women and the constant obsessing and worrying about the 50 different things going on with the car, all at the same time.

Thanks guys, I know it's not the same as the fruits of your own labor my tradeoff is working extra weekends and taking longer hours to cough up the cash to make sure everything is done to my satisfaction. I really just don't have the patience or the attention to detail that would be needed to get this thing done to where I want it to be.... I've been in doing some grunt work and some of the smaller things you've seen (strip and degrease hood, paint my headlight bezels etc...) but I'm that guy who will spend 30 minutes setting a self straight before I put it up and 100% of the time it ends up crooked!!

Growing up my dad was fairly mechanical and still is (at 82 years old he still insists on doing his own oil changes) but his fixes to me were always messy and more patch jobs... never cared about making anything pretty is just had to work and that never caught on with me.

I joined this board so I could learn and make educated choices as well as a deeper understanding of what was taking place with my car and actually having an input which is exactly what I was able to do... To the point that I've learned enough on here I've even been able to help with some decisions and information on the other Mopar's in Greg's shop right now... That alone puts a smile on my face

Hey glad to hear you're back in action goon! What did the knocking issue end up being, windage tray? Can't wait to see the video!

GOON . . . the answer to this is really easy . . . spend 30 minutes and set it up crooked, then when you put it up it'll be straight ! ! ! ( SMILE )

Wow Hyrdgoon, that is a really cool vid and the fact that he worked on your car is awesome, the people we meet and the journeys these cars take us on is pretty incredible. I know how you feel with Greg working on your car, I am having Jim Laroy of Laroy engines build my motor, I feel so lucky to find a guy of his caliber to build MY motor, it is so cool!

Your angrybird really looks awesome - very nice.

Kudos to you and your mechanics and that hauler truck is badass!

Thanks MT and Photon!

So the day I've been waiting for has arrived! It's home!! Aside from not liking the feel of the clutch (I'll expand on that below) it's like driving a completely different car. It pulls hard and breaks the tires loose so easily to the point where at times I got on the gas a little and didn't even realize I was spinning until I felt it go a little squirrelly! The bilsteins made a world of difference on the ride and handling although I decided not to drop the front right now and look further into what I'm actually going to do about suspension upgrades as my rear springs are definitely too soft.

Oh and the sound!!! Mean as hell! LOVE IT!!

Now the clutch is giving me a lot of push back at the very top and that's also where it seems to engage. It's a centreforce with the over center spring removed.... everything looks as it should but it's really hard to work woth... the clutch itself was in good shape but we swapped the disc while the motor was out just to play it safe.

:VB toast: That's great to hear Goon, hope you get that clutch figured out but sounds like a success to me. Congrats, hope you have lots of fun with it. Video???????? :sSig_goodjob:

The weather took a turn for the worse shortly after I got it home tonight so no video today. I'll try and put something together when the weather co-operates

Yep, Our Wednesday is snowed most of the day, yesterday if frosted really hard, had to let the pickup warm up for 5 mins to let the ice melt off the windshield.

The nice weather will come... someday.

I love that color of your car, looking forward to the video.

Hoping you see your nice weather soon MT! we're definitely warm enough and the snow is all gone just had some rain last night. Supposed to be thunder storms off and on here through the weekend but I think I'm good for most of the day today!

Great job goon, the car is looking fantastic even with the engine compartment painted black :poke:. I really like the sound of that exhaust, mean as hell. Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'm going to have to copy your electric fan setup, I gave up on it because I couldn't find anything big enough that would fit and went mechanical but really regret it even though it works just fine.

Goon, you are the man! that angrybird is bad ***! definitely a head turner when you drive by.

I absolutely love the sound. What mufflers are you using?

Thanks brother! I was going to make a black engine compartment joke in the video but I figured I'd keep my yap shut! lol Thanks for the compliments and I gotta agree the sound is exactly what I was shooting for and I'm really happy with it.

As far as the rad goes I know there's constraints in the Charger and it's a bit tighter than my car.... I think you may have seen the pics but there's a 69 Charger that was in the shop with my car with a crazy serpentine set up.... Wizard offered to take the dimensions and custom build something that would fit for the same price as one of their off the shelf units. I believe you have the 26" rad though so their combo for that I believe would be 2- 11"s

Thanks MT! really appreciate your compliments as well! The exhaust from front to back is Doug's 2" headers, the Flowmaster 3" "American Thunder" H Pipe exhaust and I swapped out the flowmaster 40's that came with the kit for a set of Dynomax UltraFlo's

The other thing I should say is that putting the Bilsteins in all 4 corners has made an unreal difference in the ride and handling.... it's a completely different car and that was money well spent for what it delivered.

My favorite moment so far came today I was driving up the expressway and a dude in one of those yellow Rumble Bee pickups caught up and yelled over "Nice Car" I could see him looking it over from back to front and as he got to the hood I could see him mouth "Five Twenty....... HOLY ****!!!!!!" I just laughed and nodded my head yes! Life is good! :)
