Hyrdgoon's - project angrybird

Wow GOON . . . You're moving right along there too ! ! ! Love the black painted exhaust . . . that is TOO COOL . . . and the call outs . . . WOW ! ! ! !

The sound of your car is great . . . there won't be black marks at YOUR house, I think it'll be ALL THE WAY DOWN THE BLOCK ! ! ! ! ( smile )

Hope you don't have a HEAVY foot . . . ( LMAO )

Unfortunately I have a file folder that's an inch thick of driving infractions that says my size 13 is heavy on the pedal but I blame the foot because I'm so damn responsible! lol

My pleasure sir...glad I could help, and they worked out well for you. :tiphat:

BTW.......Your car sounds tough! Like caged angry badger tough..

hahaha Thanks Prop "Caged angry badger tough" is what I was going for! ANGRYBIRD!!

Goon, man that motor sounds legit.

Thanks Coronet! so far I'm pretty pleased with CME and their product

That motor sounds great Goon, I like the black exhaust too. Hopefully we hit the streets about the same time so we can share stories haha "here comes the fun".

I don't think we'll be too far off from each other at all when we do hit the streets 747! Last summer I was so afraid to drive the thing very far so I barely left a 20 minute radius from my house with all the electrical ghosts etc... the results of all the work done over this winter is to not only make this thing have some serious bawlz but also impreove a whole bunch of small things along the way and along with the re-wire completed have a car that is more reliable and give me peace of mind... here's hoping!

The exhaust sounds great Goon. It will be interesting for me to hear the difference between yours and mine with Dynoflows. I have 1 7/8 TTI's, and 2.5 pipes. Oh yeah, I almost forgot - I don't have a 522 either lol.

I don't think ours will sound too far off Elk and I'm glad you were able to hear the video (Had you in mind when I posted it because I know you're anxious to hear the ultraflos) I'm positive you'll be happy these mufflers give a deep rich tone with no rasp

That thing is really coming together nicely and sounds great, you are going to have way to much fun.

Thanks 440+6! fun is the goal and hopefully much sooner than later!

Now it wouldn't be fair if everything went perfectly smooth for me given a lot of the setbacks and hiccups some of you guys have hit along the way (747,H2E and Kahn come to mind) so I do have an issue now and I'll let you know as things get figured out... I called the shop owner Greg Thursday morning before I went and shot this video and the first thing out of his mouth was "man I really was hoping I wouldn;t hear from you today..... we have a problem" so I agreed to come on over and see what was up and he let me know that once he got the thing fired for the first time through the exhaust there was a knock... he investigated water pump, fuel pump and all the externals and had already been on the phone with Ritchie at CME just to make sure he was covered before moving forward in the investigation... we fire the car up when I'm there (when I shot this video) and no knock for the first 3 minutes... then it started up again. Right now the best guess and wish is that it's in the pan and maybe some clearancing issues once it gets warmed up and expands... Unfortunately (well for me) Greg's sister is getting married today so we can't dig back in for investigation until next week which also allows some time to ensure CME is working out a method of warranty coverage in conjunction with Greg so my *** is covered (so far CME is completely co-operative and a dream to deal with)

I don't want to post this knock video up on a public forum but I did upload one to YouTube with private settings. If any of you want to have a listen and give me your 2 cents shoot me a msg here or a pm and I'll pm you the link to the video. Fingers crossed it's not something major because we really don't want to pull that motor out again.

Well, you know what they say......... Big Feet.................

Big shoes..........

DAMN that bird definitely sounds angry! :icon_thumleft: I think I took a gamble buying my flowmasters (thankfully I love em) but I think you're right, ultraflo's sound bad@ss on pretty much everything, especially that 522! Can't to see some of those 100-yard-long black stripes haha

But damn that really sucks to hear about the knock, I would think you're right about the clearance/heat expansion thing if it takes a while to kick in. Hope it gets taken care of man! Guess it's like they say, "if it was easy everyone would be doing it"

2059 I'm pretty sure that's all they say that would have any truth to it! lol

Thanks Speedy! And don't get me wrong Flowmaster 40's are what I had on the car and I did like them. I know I would have been fine to use the one's I was provided and would have been totally good with the sound but exhaust note has always been one of the things I sort of obsess over and I knew the exact tone I was going for so I'm glad I found what I had to do to get to it!

As far as the knock goes Cranky was kind enough to have a look at the video for me and seems to agree that we'll most likely find the cause in the pan due to some sort of expansion and clearancing. I'' PM you the video so you can see what I'm talking about. There is a windage tray in there which I thought may be the culprit since windage and strokers don't always play nice together... I would think CME would install something that they know would clear though since they've built plenty of these. I'm hoping that Monday enough investigation can be done to find the culprit and then I really am just left with a short list before I need to start buying stock in Nitto tires!

OH GOON, and filling that 1 inch thick folder some more due to your un-responsible size 13 feet . . . ( snicker )

Some better pics of the new callouts

Man that sucks, hope you get it figured out soon and put it on the road. Those scoops look wicked.

**Update** Engine is reassembled and going to try to fire tomorrow and see if we're good (just gotta grab oil in the a.m.)

Here's the messages verbatim I received from the mechanic this evening

It's back together, added a wee bit of clearance by the oil pump pickup. Feeling pretty good about it I actually painted the surfaces first and reassembled without windage tray and there were some tiny marks so I ground the block a touch.

So fingers crossed we have our culprit and will be back in business

Love the build! Engine and all the new stuff look killer! Hopefully the motor is all good inside.

Good luck man! Hopefully no more issues and you can be down the road
:eek:ccasion14:
I was paranoid about oil pickup clearance on my engine, but you can know for sure it's good just by putting the engine upside down on the stand with any 1/4-1/2" drill taped to the "top" (technically the bottom) of the pickup, and a dab of paint on the tape. Set the pan in place, lift it back off and see if there's any paint, if not then you should be good. Think mine had about 3/8" or something. Just a good tip my friend told me if anyone can use it! :icon_thumleft:

Did someone say VIII DEEE OOOOO!!! hahah!

Got the thumbs up this afternoon fellas the grinding around the oil pickup did the trick!

She's all back together and motoring through the balance of the to-do list!

AWESOME, cant wait for the vid

Just hit another small snag as I understand... Not to do with the motor though thankfully...

This is the hardest part for me about my work balance with staying on top of this stuff. I travel a LOT for work so currently I'm on the road and just get a call from Greg explaining that when he pulled off the front shocks there were rub marks from where the shocks are hitting the calipers.... essentially a clearance issue that should have been caught when the disc brake conversion was done several years ago (and by someone else)

Being on the road it's not the kind of thing I can head over now and have a look at so I can get my head around it but it sounds like a solution is going to need to be reached to get some more room since I don't want the caliper marking into my new bilsteins nor do I want the shock putting brake pressure on the front of the car... Does anyone have any insight into how this happens or a solution?

Shock/Caliper rub issue solved...

Machined off nose of steering stop, drilled tapped and installed grade 8 bolt and locknut as new adjustable steering stop.
