I worked at a job that "Randomly" drug tested 2 employees from each shift every quarter. There were 2 shifts, 100 employees each.

I got tested 5 quarters in row. They knew I was an occasional smoker of left handed cigarettes but I passed every drug test and they hated me for it. What they hated me for even more was the fact that I showed up on time every day, did my job w/o any complaints from quality control and kept my mouth shut. Kinda odd huh...
(The management and HR dept were a bunch of extreme liberals at this place, and I was a vocal Bush supporter.)
I would even sometimes wear a shirt that said. "*** Kickin' Homegrown!."
With a picture of a rebel flag and a pot leaf. They HATED that. Would drug test me within a week, I'd pass and they would be tied in knots of frustration.

Anyway the odds of my employee number actually coming up every time was like winning the lottery.


Ski, if you got 11 of them dropped on you in a year I would say:
1.- somebody above you has it out for you
2.- the government has way too much time and money on its hands
3.- both

Sad story, gee, sounds excruciating, what he went through!

I was no angel but no regular.
He was a nice guy but the job gave him the money to buy the drugs. We made $16 an hour in 1992/3 plus bennies. Not great but it worked for me.
That same thing happen in another place I worked to Vietnam vet and he was no drug user.

I have a urine test every morning. (sometimes in the middle of the night).

Even though I am semi-retired --I still am obliged to comply with the protocol in industrial construction. UA testing is normal for new hires and since I work for a contractor that is sometimes working for another (prime) contractor I am like every other new hire on the site (for that job). I have to pee to work.
This has much to do with insurance and a contractors maintenance of a high safety standard in order to qualify for contracts to do work.
Over the last 20+ years working for one company I have been tested maybe 50 times for drugs.

Also, site-specific safety orientations usually go along with the UA testing and passing grades from those tests are required as well as passing drug testing.

It makes good sense to me to have a good handle on a group of new hires for --even a one-day shutdown. I -usually- being one of the guys that have to supervise these strangers for a day. It's -some- comfort knowing they were not gathered up from a Home Depot parking lot.

I do not "sweat" them anymore
Mandatory for my job.
Looking for:
1. Opiates

This does happen a lot ! I've worked for both sides when you keep politics away from work everything is good as soon as my political party became known I got road hard so I would quit. Same with same side stuff soon as a like minded boss found out I'm on his side I got eased up on ! Hell I had one boss come in saw a bumper sticker on my car and said they had to let me go as they couldn't afford to keep me around anymore ! I have 3 people from that job say they saw him get kissed after he saw the sticker and soon after I was gone!

I could go into detail about all the slights of that place and the fact that I went to the top echelon of the Corporation with the case or the fact that a few of the middle management were fired over their actions.
Or the fact that they tried to Unionze and my vote and the "No" votes of my shift coworkers were the pivotal votes that kept the Union out. Perhaps that's why........

All I can say is I hope you didn't stay up to late studying for it. In 27+ years of Military, I've only been popped once and that was enough!
Now? Unemployed Vets over 45 are at 60% this year, last year it was 57%. There's no mention of unemployed Vets over 50, or even 55 for that matter so what's the use in a 59 YO Disabled Vet looking for a job? No one wants that, to much of a liability! Hell CA. wouldn't even let me open a one man business cause it doesn't meet their criteria, but they sure took my money with no problems, F-em! I need to go out to the garage!

I worked at a shop with DOT requirements and the union steward& I and 2 others always got yanked for random testing(out of 20+ guys) the steward finally said "what's going on here?". None of the others were on the database to get tested?? Nobody ever flunked, but it sure was exasperating!

Heres what i know. You always seem to interject politics into most threads. Always the little remark. So now I'm to believe that you the model employee was picked on because evil liberals didn't like you. What does this all have to do with you voting "no" to keep the union out. The company should have adored you. What kind of dopes were you working for anyway? I mean in 47 years I've been employed nobody ever gave two shits about who i voted for, if i was a liberal or conservative. I guess it was because we had a job to do and no time for nonsense.
