I need some honest feedback here. I've got my Ambassador for sale and sent someone about 30 pictures. He can't believe how much rust is here and doesn't know if he can deal with it. Personally, I bought the car because of how little it had. Now he wants me to sand the spots and get before and after shots.
I need some feedback please.

That is a little on the heavy side. If he wants you to do that, I would look for another buyer. If he can't see what needs to be done, he isn't very experienced.
 
Here is the last of it. There is surface rust, but that's it.

I wouldn't grind on my car to show more rust to some potential buyer that might back out on the deal. You can tell by looking that there are rust issues that need repair. If he's serious, he needs to look at the car as is, in person, and then make up his mind. IMO if he won't do that, I'd look for another buyer.
 
These are pictures I sent after he turned the car down. I wanted to make sure I was clear on the condition of the car, so I sent these with a message. I wish my Charger was this "bad".
 
That looks like a cream puff compared to the Charger I am working on now lol. I wouldn't do any sanding or grinding for this 'potential' buyer if it was me. He's just tire kickin.
 
The car is in great shape next to my Charger too. I'm almost desperate to sell the thing, with our move and all, but y'all are righ. Im not sanding on it. Maybe ebay is the answer for it.
 
I agree, just about anybody can look at those pics and see whether or not they need patched. I wouldn't touch it, I would never expect a seller to sand a car down just so I could say yeah or Neh. Next buyer please
 
I wouldn't even let him poke a finger in the rust...I had a guy wanting me to pull a head off so he could see how much wear the pistons had...let him walk
 
I think i would tell him if he doesn't think he can do it then just don't buy it, its all there to see what your getting, He could take that trunk deck lid off and use some white vinegar and water mixed and take that surface rust off, just saying it isint something that will break him. It does sound like he doesn't know what he can do, or he wants a a car that needs waxed i guess... That would be nice, but we know it doesn't very often work that way, well, maybe with Mr. Cranium maybe! :)

The reality is one must understand rust when buying a car because there are different levels of it. The small bubbles visible in the paint are actually five to ten times worse than they appear. The heavy surface rust inside the trunk is mostly a non issue but labor intensive. The obvious holes in the quarter panels tell the story and will be worse than they appear. Everything you show in the pictures is repairable without patch panels if the person doing the repair is good with metal. I fixed worse holes in my 69 RR without patch panels. If I were the buyer I would look that car over very carefully because it seems to have come from a damp climate. Under body rust in between the spot welded seams may present some issues. If there is no flaking rust or expanded metal in or around the seams then probably good. And you might ask where can he find a better one?
 
I agree on the rust bubbles and the work required for the trunk Meep, but I never claimed for the car to have no rust or be perfect. My claim to fame for this one is it's almost untouched. It struck me as odd that he first thought it was a lot. Sure there are cars with less, but this one is in good shape. And second, that he wants me to sand it down for pics.
 
There is a lot of rust issues and some in your second to last picture show it most but he needs to understand what all is involved, if he doesn't want a project, then this isint the car. Most of us know whats going on but it doesn't look like he does, i don't know and im not asking but whatever the price is, if he knows cars at all should tell him, you cant wash it and head out for a party, i hope im not stepping my bounds but this is what it comes down to.
 
if he cant tell what kind of work it will take by looking at those pics he is in way over his head tell him to move on and perhaps find a car already finished..definitely don't be sanding on it for him to try and beat ya on the price jm2cw
 
I sent him a reply. Told him I wouldn't sand it. I also told him to look around and see what's out there. If he's still interested after,that, let me.

Couldn't have said it better myself Meep! I can see where the buyer would have hesitation, especially if he isn't use to dealing with rust, and being he is not sight on seen. That being said, sounds like he's shopping for the wrong caliber of car, and probably based on price. That is a pretty tall order asking you to take a grinder/sander to the car without having a good idea if he's going to buy it or not. Myself, I would rather buy a project car showing it's old paint and rust. At least it's honest. It's the stuff that's hidden under bad body work that get's up and bite's you.

Sounds like he is in over his abilities. He wants you to repair the rust and then beat you up on the price. Tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine and come back when he has the dough to buy the car.
 
From what i'm reading, it sounds like he was hoping you would do all his work for him and he was going to pay you the same asking price. He's got to know with these older cars, that not ALL of them are stored in a climate controlled building.

And I couldn't agree more about leaving a good honest car honest, or the evil which lurks under previous body work. If the OP grinds those areas then that takes away from the essence of the car. Seems to me the buyer needs to be looking at ten year old CA cars or be happy he found an old one that is pretty darn good and original for the price.
