I want to try a different hood scoop......

2014-04-01 08.37.26.jpghere is mine. Actually had some other ideas about making two ducts from the headlights to the 1050 and losing this scoop all together.

I turn my head away when I see a Mopar with a cowl hood, I guess it's a Chevy thing.

Your at the point where function has to rule over form.

The aero scoop you chose suits the car a little better because it has a flat oval opening that is more similar to the grille than others.

i look at the cowl scoop as a 70 road runner scoop,i have one on my car. :)

Sell me this scoop Canyon?

Hey SuperStockRacer,
I just was this on MI craiglist. https://lansing.craigslist.org/pts/4732521525.html
Riverdawg.

Riverdawg thanks for the listing. Not sure why he wants $300.00 for a scoop that costs $260.00 new. Maybe it's the HEMI Decal.lol
I'd grab that in a second if it was reasonably priced.

I have not made any changes as of yet. Probably won't till the season ends and I can find a way to fabricate the new one. sheetmetal or glass.

I think I am going to sell the hood and the scoop as one. Maybe trade for new glass hood and some cash.

I have a 65 dodge so the hood wont work for me but i'm still interested in the scoop. it would be easier to sell each item separately imo.

Maybe lower that motor an inch or two and take out a few of the one inch carb spacers and you could run a lower Mopar Hemi scoop. I make scoops for a portion of my living and that has to be the most that I have seen a set of carbs sticking through a hood. It may be a tunnel ram that is used and if that is the case, go with a nostalgia pro stock style scoop.

the engine is down as low as it can go. There's only a 1/2" spacer to clear the throttle linkage. I asked you a few years ago to make one for me but you said it's going to cost big big bucks. So I had my body guy raise the scoop up an inch taller with fiberglass and internal stiffening with a piece of aluminum.

Here's my plan to lose this scoop. I am going to install a Spectre air filter number SPE-98999 or at summit racing as part number 98999 to fit my 1050 dominator. Then smooth flex pipe to my headlight opening on each side with 4" flex pipe. Elminate the hood and scoop completel and get a new glass hood thats flat. the two openings are rated air flow @ 1250 cfm. I think this will work but I am certainly open ot other ideas. I just think this will streamline the body more.

How about something like this? Shorter run will keep the air cooler.

Canyon has a good idea too.

A lot of modern cars use wheel well intakes. Or you could just drop the intake pipe down one side of the motor, maybe near the oem battery, build an aluminum box and suck air from beneath the car.

I like both of those ideas I had never seen the air intake facing the firewall. Short runs are best thats for sure. Cooler is better. I am trying to find a good duct material that wont absorb to much heat. I would also like to find the interior to be smooth. Not sure if that matters but any thoughts on this appreicated...

Food for thought, AEM's chief engineer states that the speed the air travels through the intake negates any heat soak issues. Just find the location with the coldest air source.

Going to try this one. Got to get the car to the body shop to get it all glassed up. This should work.

What about your scoop you have now with a series of 2" holes drilled across the rear with a black mesh inside across them so the scoop flows and doesnt "hold" the air. With the mesh it would hardly be noticeable and would allow the air to pass thru.

That is not very nostalgic?

Don't need two nostalgic hood scoops. this new one is for the heads up racing. The original hood scoop will be for nostalgia events. Best of 2 worlds and the car is super consistent that wins races.

I'm going to do that too thanks. I've seen a few cars with that modification. That should help a little.

This is where I need your craftsmanship.
Too bad you live so damn far away.
