I have a 69 runner. I have been redoing some of the dash and wiring. And now my key ignition. Wont start the car. But if i jump it from the ignition box on the firewall it will fire right up. Ive went back and checked everything ive done in the dash. And have troubleshooted until my breaking point. If anyone knows what would cause this please help a fellow moparer out. And the weather is gettin nice im ready to go whoop up on some hondas.

Have you checked neutral safety or clutch pedal switch circuits.

it still turns over though would it still do that If it was the neutral safety. Im lost lol sorry.

Could you be more specific "jump ignition box...firewall" has me thinking starter relay, which would bypass key and any other switches. I don't fully understand.

Sorry im a bit of a noob at this. It is the starter relay not ignition box. I can start it from there. If i jump it with a screwdriver it fires right up. But when i try it with the key it just turns over cranks and cranks without a hit. Ballast resistor has power on both sides so does ign 1and ign2.

Do you have 12V at the yellow wire on the starter relay when the IGN switch is in cranking mode? If so then it's possible you have a bad starter relay. If no power at yellow wire then you could have a bad IGN switch or a bad connection from it. The spade terminal on the starter relay next to the yellow wire goes to the neutral safety switch or can just be grounded.

I have tracked it down to that yellow wire. I replaced the spade end. And it started once by the key. Then it wouldnt start again. So now i just need to troubleshoot it A little more. The wire itself is pretty brittle. So hopefully i can replace it and thatll work. Fingers crossed

Well now it just starts from the key at random. I dont know. Im frustrated. JUST WALK AWAY AND COLLECT MY THOUGHTS!!!

Well come to find out, it was the coil wire!!! Fires up on time everytime now!! Appreciate the feedback fellas.

glad you figured it out. i had the same problem .it was at the bulkhead connector.
