So I've started the car twice now since putting in the new motor, changed the fuel system to a return style and worked out those kinks but now its like I don't have enough power to turn the motor over fast enough to run. Cleaned and checked all grounds (body to engine, engine to frame, battery to body, battery to frame) has a brand new gold battery 800 CCA brand new mini starter etc. My question is the 4gauge power wire I'm using at this point. But regardless, I don't know what else to do. Someone help me out here. Power wire gets extremely hot. Also thinking neutral safety switch wiring since I was unsure of those as well but like I said it did start and run one good time. Trying to get it going for break in. Thanks in advance.

1)check to make sure motor turns over by hand ok.2)you can pull the mini starter and have it bench checked for draw.(sometimes even new ones are bad)3)check to make sure battery has full charge.load test if you can(12.6 volts min to check properly.)are bat cables new?they can corrode inside and cause lack of power transfer.

4 gauge might a little light. Check time. Too advanced can sound like a low batt.. I agree w/67 Coronet.

I ordered a new 2 gauge wire and ring terminals yesterday we'll see how that goes. I don't remember what my clearances were but I know they were by the book. Keep in mind it turned over first try when I put the motor in and hooked everything up. At this point it has to be the wire or the starter. Everything is brand new. I will update after replacing the cable and stuff and go from there. I made sure the starter house ground is clean and tried swapping NSS outer wires but I don't think that even matters since I'm not using a relay. Still new to wiring a complete car but went off of painless wiring harnesses diagram and tried to wire it to a T. I'm not an original guy, new is generally better in my opinion and i'm building this for me. Might just turn it into a drag car but I gotta get it going first lol.

Another concern was how tight the spot is on the starter where the wires are and if the nut might had been touching the block but I don't think it was, when I put the new wire on i'ma stick a feeler gauge in there to see what clearance I have. Also going to install a heat shield on the starter if i can manage to dent the header tube some for better clearance there as well to avoid a heat soak issue in the future but it seems impossible lol

some mini high torques have an extender attached at the battery cable point.you can remove it and get more room.i know the denso starters have it.moves the cable mount from the rear of the solenoid to the side.

Had to toss the adapter before I could even install it so that's not the issue still waiting on a new power wire to show up and then well see. If not its gotta be the starter. I think I'm also gonna move the engine to frame ground to the starter bolt and see if that helps, have it on the back of the head right now.
