Styling and performance just wasn't the same, but there are still plenty '73 and on cool cars. It just has to do with what is popular and that's no different than a '50 Chevy vs. a '57 Chevy now or 20 years ago. There are plenty of later cars that have rising popularity from late 70s T/As, GNs, Turbo T/As, Supras, special Mustangs, etc.
