Hey Everyone,

New to the forums so here goes with my first question. Long time enthusiast, been dormant for about 5 years now. Just today I got a line on not one but 2 GTX's. One is a 68, the other a 69. Both are "shells" to one extreme or another, missing motor and trans as well as many other pieces. Sitting out in the weather for I'm not sure how many years.

So here's my question, assuming I can barter a reasonable price for the set: What is working for you guys and gals for finding donor cars for seats, dashes, door panels, fenders, etc now-a-days? Buying all that these cars need from Vendors like Year One, Inc. would cost me more than I can spend quickly, and would likely take years. No, I am not committed to salvaging these rare birds just yet, but like another reader posted "I am a bit of a glutton for punishment". And I kind of like the idea....

I went around to a few local salvage yards today and one guy even laughed at me when I asked if they had any 1968 Plymouth four doors for parts. He told me "those cars are worth more by the pound now than they are for parts". So where to begin to look? Are there salvage yards in the Texas / Oklahoma / Kansas / New Mexico region that specialize in old MOPARS? Any hints or tips would be appreciated. I have some pics but I am really not sure how to post them to the site.

Thanks

Joe

OK...quick thanks to my tech savy wife for showing me how to post pics.

There are a couple around. One in Texas, Illinois. Seach the Mopar sites as I can't remember them off hand and I deleted from my favorites as I am 90 % done with my 68 roadrunner. good Luck!

The guy at the wrecking yard that laughed is an idiot! Keep your eye on Craigslist too. I just missed a rust free 69 Road Runner for 7500 bucks...it just needed some assembly that was advertised on there....

For the best prices I would try swap meets, Craigslist, and the For Sale postings in this forum.

Junkyards are drying up; scrap metal is way up there, and, with AutoZone's out there selling new Alternators for 40 bucks, why would anyone ever buy anything used? I had 3 yards I used to pick from here in TX; Texas Acres, a guy in Austin, and a guy near Kempner; all are closed; and all the cars gone; scrap metal prices, too tempting to sell 'em and crush 'em!
