I've looked around and found various threads about opinions on removing inner fender rust. Outside is no problem to sand, but the inside is contoured and has bracing so it may be more difficult.

What is everyone doing nowadays to remove surface rust from the inside of the front fenders? Goal is to get them down to bare metal to prime and paint. I've read horror stories about evapo rust gel so that's out.

I use a “rust converter” called Rust Mort that you can buy at part stores. It turns rust into iron phosphate (black). Let it cure about 48 hrs, then prime over it

I've read on here that Corroseal is good, works pretty much the same way. I bought a big jug of it based on the positive reviews but have yet to use it...sure to pop it open in the spring though.

Yeah I've used coroseal before on truck frames. I'll have to try that, for some reason I thought it coated the rust instead of remove it though

I blast inner fenders and firewalls without issue, there are enough curves and contours to hold it in place...... if these areas do actually warp a little, I have never noticed

if the car is together, you need to mask it up tight; once you got your ducks in a row, it's pretty fast and simple

I blasted the inside of my fenders with-out issue. You don't need insane pressure and you move around like you are priming them once on the inner sheet metal part. The braces/supports can take it just be-careful near the edges as you don't want to concentrate on those areas. No need to concentrate in small areas up close just keep moving. Most destroy parts by staying in one area and being against it generating too much heat and pressure.

Great, thanks for your input. Any recommendations for blasting media for doing the fenders? Just gotta get my compressor wired up now.

I used play sand I bought them in 80lbs.

back side of fenders is a good candidate for rust bullet........ let it harded up, sand it, and coat it with whatever you choose; you wont see rust in our lifetime
