Hey guys, when the time comes, I’m going to be installing the engine into my ‘68 Charger from the bottom. Engine setup is a 440/727 with TTI headers. Can the engine be installed with the headers on or do I have to put them in afterwards? Thanks

My guess is they should be, especially TTIs. I'll be doing the same procedure soon except with an A833. Can't wait to see what the experts on here say.

Should go in without any problem... If you want a little extra wiggle room bolt the headers on but leave the bolts loose... Tightening the bolts is easy....

Edit... Just noticed spell check had shortened header to head... Don't leave the head bolts loose, thats a bad idea... LOL...

Though in the interests of full disclosure I did install a 390 Ford engine in a 69 Cougar & left the right head unbolted while installing the engine... Header bolted to the head, no bolts or gasket... Bolted the head on after the engine was bolted to the mounts.... Anyone who's worked on a FE powered Mustang or Cougar can probably relate...

Sometime in the future, I'd like to try an install from underneath.

Thanks for the replies. I always thought that it wasn't an issue but I watched the episode of nicks garage where they installed the 440 in the 69 Charger 500 from underneath and had to pull the passenger side header...I don't think they were TTIs but it had me doubting things

Installed mine (Hooker Super Comp) from underneath with 4 speed no issues

No problem. Its the only way to do it! Mine are 2" primaries w 3-1/2" collectors.

I saw that too. Those were American Racing headers.

With the Tremec, it is the only way.. The amount of work getting the trans in with the Engine in the car, I ain't doing that again.

In my case putting the 6.1 in my 68 Charger, it was a 20 minute job from underneath. With the torsion bars out, there is nothing in the way. 4 bolts in the K frame and 4 bolts in the rear cross member

I'm about to drop my small block and auto trans and swap in my fresh magnum 360 with headers on. The car is on a 2 post lift. Was thinking I need to build a rolling jig of sorts but it looks like some just use a heavy duty moving dolly. The idea is to drop engine/trans. Separate trans. Lift off LA engine. Drop on Magnum. Mate trans and install. Not seeing how there is enough room to get to the K member and trans cross member bolts using dolly.
