Intake manifold insulation

I found this picture and it looks like there is a retainer under the intake manafold. The insulation goes under that.

Seems like that just gets thrown out when doing a rebuild. Do you know if it was (is) worth putting in?

They were installed mainly on C bodies to muffle the lifter noise. I've found them on a 68 300 with 440 and 70 300 with 440. My 69 R/T 440 did not have one. I always pitch them to let some cool air get under that intake. But if you're going total 100% concourse, that's a different story.

Don't use aluminum foil. It wont hold up. I use stainless steel foil and ceramic wool insulation. Its industrial insulation material for thoes that haven't herd of them.
