Can you take a look at this cowl.

I am wondering about the corners. Is that the normal shape or are they suppose to be boxed in/closed ? Like the replacement cowl in the first picture from a supply house ?

The white cowl I have pictured below is one I have found to replace my rusted one....... but the corners are oped ended, like my original cowl.

The supply house piece is boxed in at the ends ?

I am wondering if my cowl and the one in the pictures are just rusted out on the corners or is that the way they are suppose to be ?

I have read this over and I am confused :) Hopefully this makes sense !

thanks,

My guess is that "supply house piece" is stamped out longer than necessary so that you can trim it to suit your needs. I am more familiar with the `68 to `70 stuff and it is not boxed out like your new stamping is and that would be a leaded joint, right?.

It's suppose to have the holes like the replacement piece you have from the doner car. The rectangular hole is the drain hole that gets clogged and makes all of them rust out. I need to do the same thing with my 65 Satellite. If you want to sell the repop piece I would be interested. The corners I noticed on mine have seam sealer on them. Hope I helped. Mike

cowl

The factory cowl points as you are talking about, tend to be 'open'. But this is because of factory quick fit design. Face it, the design of the cars, was 'cheap' especially 62 to 65, and these cowls were a poor design to start. The repops are made more exact and with a smaller piece the tooling could do this. Naturally in restoring, one needs to fit per the car and need. It is a sure fit compared to making your ouwn piece that is for sure. Note the 'square' hole is not a vent per se, but really the access to fit in the bolt blind clip, (for fender).

Now it's all starting to make some sense..... wow a poor system back then.....

I almost feel like trying to box the ends in on the donor cowl that I pictured to stop the water flow for the future...?
