Is this guy serious

This guy is one of the biggest ripoffs on ebay. He has a lot of parts that would be useful for many of us. Unfortunately, greed and high roller people keep his prices out of reach to the majority of us.

They don't cater to the majority. They cater to a select market and let's be honest even at half his prices the majority would still not buy/complain. The majority does not build the cars for most of these parts.

Furthermore, it is their parts and they can ask whatever they want.

As I agree prices are sometimes out of control and not realistic. So one has to go with what they can afford that's it.

Steve,
I think this speaks to what people find valuable. I mean look at "us" in this whole car collecting thing.
I keep having to point out to my wife that "at least" my hobby has a practical side. Cars can be used for transportation.
That is not the case for everyone.
Some people only drive their cars to shows and in good weather. Some do it for money.
At any rate years ago a coworker came into the avionics ready room with some stainless pens he had gotten a "deal' on.
Skydrol proof, I remember him saying. I got one from him (Pen "A").
Then on a trip to Office Max/Depot I found the same pen. It was just a little fatter and had chrome trim.
It was very reasonable for a nice pen. So I bought two. I carried those Parker Jotters cross country with me and signed quite a few log books with them.
Last Christmas while I was hurrying to make the MOPAR club party, I must have lost one.
So I went to Office Max/Depot to replace it. But they didn't have one.
No problem I though. I'll check Ebay.
Turn out people collect PENS! Well, since my son is in communications/media and has my father's "Best Letter" from the VA in his office, I thought I would buy him a nice pen or two. My artist niece saw it and like it. She runs a restaurant.
So I got her some for show and some for go.
Both the kids have birthdays coming up so I've started buying them a few pens.
I got her what seems to be a rare gold one for 10 dollars and shipping.
Turns out is is a 65 Consort.
No, I'm not going to become a pen collector.
I mean, when I die someone would just have more stuff to get rid of.
But reading about this stuff is interesting.
And like cars, it's can get crazy expensive.

For example

A. The pen that got it started.
B. My UK made Flighter Jotter with thousands of air miles on it.
C An English made "45" Flighter. Found it with a pen dealer in Thialand. Good "deal" on it from what I've seen. It's got brass threads.
Woo hoo.
D A predate coded 45 Flighter mechanical pencil for my son
E What I think is a 1960s mechanical pencil for me.

Its supply and demand, how many nos ones are left out there?

I love seeing the high prices on parts, it makes me laugh a little, and in this world with out Richard prior, George carlin, and john belushi..

I was a the Thompson 2 years ago, a guy had a non posi 8 3/4 (in junkyard shape, no brakes on it) for $1000, a frame (small block nothing special also rusty and crusty) for $1250, they were both b body parts marked ("HEMMI CUDA", yah 2 m's, ******* guys was a genius), so my son said "dad, that's not an hp k frame, no skid plate", I said that's a not even an ebody k frame....

So I gave my son the look to not say anything, whats it gonna prove, I don't want it even if it was the right part..

I am looking through his parts (I am a rummanger, I like the 5 gal buckets of parts and milk crates) and he has a 12 pack beer bottle box full of air breathers, and he had 2 air cleaners, and a bent up 4bbl oval base, he has some mopar stuff.

So I said, hey pal, before I start digging whats the price on this stuff? He looked over and said $5 each, so fair enough..

I take out 4 air cleaner assemblies all dual snorkels (I have paid $100 for one before, and one had a mint 440 insert with it), that box of air breathers (4 triples, 4 singles, and maybe 5 or 6 other useless ones), I also found 2 1970 coronet hood latch and release assemblies (they are worth $75-100 each), and a 70 charger jack hook..

So I pull out all this junk, stack it up and say how much for everything, he looks at it all and said $50, I handed him the money thanked him...

My point is, everyone walked by his spot because he had 4 or 5 big items with stupid prices, but I bought $1000 of parts from him for $50 and he was a nice guy to deal with, but because he had them overprice parts out there, people walked right by..

When I went to swap meets kept money in several pockets in different amounts so I'd never put out a big wad of bills just enough to pay for what I bought.
Scored a pair of headlight bezels on ebay for my 66 Satellite $200. Guy's ad said used but look NOS. He pictured 1 small defect on each. Defects were 3/32" scratches toward bottom of outer edge on bottom half. Seen worse on NOS bezels. The argent paint on inside could be redone, no big deal. Anodize was very nice I believe they were NOS bezels. They were the last pieces I need for the front of my Satellite, I don't count parking light housings, pot metal. Seen one NOS and the crazy $$$ again.

Just search "1962 Dodge, parts and accessories" on Flea Bay and look at some of those prices. Most of the outrageous priced parts have been on there for over a year. Like mentioned, just a select few would pay it.

What I don't like is someone seeing those prices think that they can ask a whole lot more for their used ones. Just like the big auction houses bringing big numbers on a particular car. Everyone that owns one thinks they can get those kinds of prices.

HP k frames? Only hemi and six packs came with skid plates, typically. Even a few of those got the non skid plate k frame. 440s etc it was not standard....Unless it was a factory mistake.

Talk about dreaming, the $70,000 starting bid on a 1970 nearly complete Hemi engine and a buy it now price of $115,000. Even it was original engine for a S bird would be crazy. If you had a high dollar car $200K+ that's quite a hit and is there a reserve on that $70k engine.

Interesting discussion. It's obviously true that a guy can ask any price he wants for whatever he's selling. If it sells, fine. If it doesn't, it's either overpriced or there's no demand. It's as close as you are going to get to a true free market. That being said, prices like these is why I've stopped restoring cars. I've never bought and restored cars with the idea of selling them for a profit but now I won't even buy a car for myself anymore if it needs a major resto. I love to do restorations but it's just too much of a money pit these days when you can go out and buy a nice finished car for half of what it cost to restore. If doing restorations is your thing and you can afford it great, love to see it, but I can't afford it anymore. I'll have to be happy just driving and maintaining the old Belvedere and that ain't too bad.

Right there with ya.... Currently, I am doing my last of the last.....The prices, hassles, and headaches has steered me clear of anymore future restorations...

If there was a next addition, it would be restored from someone elses dime and bought at a fraction of the original cost...

Heres the one from my 68. I should have pulled it out of the car before I sold it and put it up for sale for 800 bucks!

Reading all these posts sometimes makes me think I should/could part out my restored GTX and make a fortune off the parts because they're pretty much all original. Could probably do better than selling the car whole...... lol

Obvious the theme is cost....But just how many of these nos parts are around anymore. Furthermore, most that are available are not the best nos around. You have to be careful what your purchase.

If it was at a third of the price would you still buy it? Or just bitch more about the cost.

Assuming because one can purchase due to need makes them stupid is ludicrous? Maybe they cannot wait three years of searching for a part a hundred dollars less than the one ready to purchase? You cannot relate when you don't build cars like these. Some state they have but they really are not......

It is no different if you had these same parts and tried to sell them. If you did you would be asking the same inflated prices.

Easy to say when the shoe is in the other foot.....

If and WHEN the muscle car market drops out, he may wish he sold stuff at a more reasonable rate. His prices remind me a vintage aircraft parts.

As I stated before these guys could give two shits if the market flops or if they sell it, they do not need the money.....

GLM has a warehouse full of rare restored cars, so your point is what again?

The deals will be available when they pass away.....

the market has been called dying several times since the 80's,and the prices keep going up. In 1992 I sold a 68R/T charger for 10k. I was told that was it, the market had peaked, and people would lose Interest. 50k plus today, and no sign of slacking off. I am the optimist regarding Mopars period. Ford, not so much!

Not to argue, but everything comes to an end. Look at the age of the car show crowd. Nothing but gray hairs. I don't see many young guys out there, and if they have a car they are showing a rice burner. And the big reason is the cost, no body has a job that pays like it did, when we were working. Almost no factory jobs, no new people are learning the trades like we did. Even the Air Force is short pilots.
