Is this guy serious

Im sorry that my choice of words when i said "do the hobby a disservice offended you. However your verbal attack on me is unwarranted and unexpected. I do appreciate your advice and our many conversations both in the forums and via PM. Thanks and i will not be a bother to you from this point forward, i would only ask you do the same.
Hey steve we like you here,
lets keep moving forward, and try not to attack each other for no reason. Nobody here has the ability to Influence any one else. Few here if any know any more than any one else. besides, it isn't worth worrying about in any case.

Now that said, I can say with absolute certainty that I am much smarter than my two sisters.
That is a good thing!

The use of the word Disservice was poor choice this i admit. I guess if i had a absolutely perfect Hemi GTX and needed a perfect NOS part such as the one in question and could afford it, id buy that part at the price given. Its still not cheap but if you want perfection you will pay. I hope this puts the issue at rest.

You can strive for perfection and not pay nearly what that guy is asking..... in my opinion.

I know I'm new here but wow, I forget how "sensitive" guys are.
that aside, I stick to my same opinion, its fun to see what people sell stuff for, or in some cases don't sell stuff for, but there is a common here that can't be ignored, ITS THEIR STUFF, they can sell it for what they want, that being said, we can also laugh at them for trying to get $1000 for something we wouldn't pay $100 for.

I think the real story here is the guy that spends the $1000... He may be out there?

I hate selling stuff, and it shows when you walk through my shop, BUT I am going to be forced to clean up very soon, I have no more room. And I may be asking what some people call insane prices..
Everything I listed in the for sale section didn't get 1 reply, lol, so maybe I ask way too much too!!! I may be just like this guy looking for $800 for the radio trim.
I listed a 71 18 spline 2.44 trans in there, if I cant get $3000 for that tranny I think I will just keep it forever, I had Jamie rebuild it and if I remember correctly that was a good amount of $2000, and that is a rare tranny, let me know how many of them you have seen over the years...
I also listed a 1050 dominator that I spent maybe well over $1000 on with air cleaner for $500 and not one hit, that thing runs perfect on a big block, with a bunch of tuning parts included...

So I fear I am one of the offenders judging by how much interest my 2 items have gotten, lol.

I know this isn't a race forum so a 1050 big guy isn't a huge demand, and its a b0body forum so a 71 18pline isn't a huge demand as it would be for the e body guys.

I listed a bunch of stuff on c-list last weekend and tried to sell as much as I could before these storms we got. I did OK.

Sold set of 70' ls6 chevy heads for $1000, an air dryer for a compressor for $1100, a 8 3/4" posi out of a cuda for $1000, a savoy roller (tubbed, caged, pizza cutters, race seat and dash, hemi hood) for $4800 (was asking $6K, but the only guy that showed up offered me $4800 so I let it fly, I paid $3500 with it running and yanked the 440 and 727 out of it).

I also sold a bunch of little stuff
-1970 challenger rally dash frame almost all stripped $100
-complete trim set for b-body (front and back glass, vviny top, and drips) in nice shape needed to be polished $300
-set of big block motor mounts and hp manifolds $600
-$150 stainless steel table (bakery table but we used it for stripping trannys (the shifting type not the gay **** ones, yes its gay even if they have tits).

oh and I sold the 3 roofs to one guy!!!! 71 cuda, 68 charger, 70 gtx, that cleaned up a lot of space!!! I had them on there for $500 each, I sold all 3 for $750 I couldn't say no, he brought 3 guys and a trailer with him, I didn't even have to help him load them, he also bought about 10 doors for $50 each (I know they were worth a lot more, just the latches sell for that, but I only gave him the rotted half stripped ones, I think he thought the vent windows were all worth the money, but they were all pitted, any without pits I strip out and save, you cant chrome the pitted ones, they come like ****..

I did right over $10K, and I didn't even dent it, I have a plan, I'm going to sell the stuff outside (now covered In 2 feet of snow), then move to the insides of buildings.

I just opened a trailer that has some parts in it, a really nice set of ready for paint 1970 charger doors (I had them all worked, no rot, all primed and sealed and ready to go, not that long ago, only to end up using R/T doors, they were nice to start with but still send a set of doors out to a good body shop and let me know what that costs, lol), not sure what to ask for them?
Also a 70 coronet decklid also all worked and ready for paint (I should keep that), a 440 block all bored and ready to go with a set of brand new KB pistons (need pistons to bore/hone it), I think its a 72 block, all painted, covered in oil, and wrapped in plastic, I'm never gonna build it, pistons were $500 and the block work was $500+...

Man I am rambling and stressing myself out thinking about all the work it is going to be cleaning up over there. I am WAY too old for this ****, I can't lift big blocks up anymore, I used to be able to yank the right off the ground and carry them to the truck and get them in the bed with out any help, now I was carrying 1 ls6 head 15 feet and died 3 times on the way.

In all seriousness, I need to clean up, if something ever happens to me (not if, but when rather), as it is now my wife will have a huge mess to clean up and probably get robbed for most of it. I have some good stuff that is obviously worth money and she knows it like the 4 ci 6 pack setups on the shelf, 3 trannys on the shelf, stack of painted bell housings, manifolds, all the chrome stuff, that easy to figure out its valuable, BUT the 67 gtx hood, few air grabber hoods, couple ram charger hoods, complete 70 charger nose, complete 68 charger nose, multiple stacks of tail panels, shelves of grills, shelves of lights... That one shed has an easy $30K in parts in it, and we are old, so we need to be careful of who comes there, there are crazy people out there, I do keep the 40 cal wakowski on my hip (permit to carry since the 80's, I have forgot to renew my drivers licence maybe 6 times over the years, but never that ccw lol)...

Wow I just realized how much I talk to myself, if anyone actually read this, thanks and I am sorry.

man I need to go to bed later, I wake up too early and I am bored by 7am :( , already had breakfast, showered, shaved, dressed, made a couple phone calls, got the dogs out and in, fixed a leg on a table my wife asked me to fix last night, what is wrong with me? I'm gonna start going to bed at 3 am so this doesn't happen anymore.. Its only 7:30 and I have nothing to do until I go to bed tonight, I don't like Tv so I am fucked... Ill be in the garage if anyone needs me :(

Since I will have the last word. Steve, you can bother anytime. I do not hold grudges. When someone is wrong and in relates to an individual I may know then I will stand up against that untruth. I think your rational enough to understand th. Others should be able to but they are biased due to opinion.

For the topic in play all of my restorations are solely fueld by my hard earned $$$. I spend it as I see fit and if you asked me what something cost or what I paid I will easily show you via a receipt if needed. That is my choice on how I build my restorations the way the money can flow and hopefully it can, lol.

Can everyone posting here produce the same receipts? Saying it is one thing but proving it, well that's another story indeed!

People ask all the time what does this or that cost etc....Some don't find out till the bill comes. So I am willing to provide any education towards costs to any member here. Educating the consumer is key for our hobby....So.some can budget and some don't have to but WE all want to know what things cost.....

Get over yourself bud.
Nobody gives a crap what you paid for your parts.

Well that was beneficial....See this is where people read people wrong and act inappropriate. The point is not what I paid it is the guys wondering...What does it really cost to have something nicely restored?

If you don't like that then move on but if one wants to know pm me anytime.....It's not like saying one thing, covering it up and then reproducing a new pic that's dishonest.......

I agree with this 100%, I keep EVERY receipt and even when I buy used parts, I will write myself a receipt saying what I paid, because I will forget before I get the part off the truck.

And if I get a part, say a set of charger doors, I buy for $300 and strip and then have $400 of body work done to them, I will write that on a tag and wire it to the doors, so when I don't use them and go to sell them I know what I paid and would like to get back.

I write everything down...

make no mistake, I'm reading you right.
There's a self proclaimed expert on every site. You just happen to be that guy here.
As for the pic, the image was not reproduced. It was taken the day you asked for it and represents its current condition.

Lol....Current condition(LOL) after a quick touch up..... Remember there is a difference in the pre versus the post pic and you made a quick touch up to that area.. no biggie, just stating facts not fiction.

I am by far no expert as you refer to.....There was a member here that is no longer around that is probably by far the most knowledgeable on mopars that I know of. Currently, restoring a fantastic one of none car!

Furthermore, there are probably 10 whom I will not name here that make me look like a novice.

Do I know a lot of course I do....Do I know it all, no way! Just because I share it when I can does not make me a expert but a source of help.....I do not the see what your issue is with me other than some personal indifference on your part only...I have absolutely no issue with you and if you need help etc. I would chime in on that thread of course.

You can strive for perfection and not pay nearly what that guy is asking..... in my opinion.

I try and remember the adage :"Perfect is the enemy of good".
I try, anyway,
It's hard with OCD.

I seem to remember someone saying years ago that the Chrysler hobby has gone the way of Corvette restorations.
Now cars are restored to a condition with is actually better than they left the factory.

Some people do that. I personally like how they looked, and drove when new. For being on polyester tires they drove pretty nice. I try to do only to the point they look like they did. No more, no less, as original as possible. As far as parts prices go, supply and demand rules. That is life,be it gold, houses, whatever. Unfortunately many Guys are held hostage by the location they live in. What is considered nice in Pennsylvania would not be considered the same as a car from the northwest. The Same goes with parts. Too bad there Isn't an easier way to educate The new hobbiest so they don't get taken. It is a big hobby, and everyone has different tastes, which is fine too.

I would hope the cars I restore are better than factory, I do drive to the show cars, so aluminum radiators, disc brakes up front (new tech brake pads all around), gates belts and hoses (way nicer than the stuff from the 70's), no bias plys, poly bushings, led light bulbs, msd ignition, better flowing and sounding exhaust system, stainless brake and fuel lines, stainless e-brake cables, better lubes through out the car, and we didn't even get to the engine yet.

A much better cam grind (in some cases a roller cam and stroker kit with fuel injection), the heads are cleaned up (if we don't use aluminums), the intakes are matched, had assembled, arp bolts, high volume oil pump, pistons with coated skirts, better bearings, better springs, etc...

Even the trannys I do most of the time I have them slick shifted and when I get the steering gear back from steer and gear I think its night and day better than original feel..

Yah I will take my 70' v-code GTX how it is now, over how it was on the first day of its life any day of the week.
A real 550 hp 500" roller cam motor, 6 pack has all the promax goodies, 4 speed that can be power shifted, pypes brand exhaust that can make you rethink life itself, 4 wheel disc stops on a half dollar, steering feel like a race car, suspension reacts and recovers WAY better than it did factory, aluminum radiator with electric fan keeps that big girl cool on even the hottest days, msd ignition works with out fail or thought, braided, and stainless, lines everywhere look and are worry free.

yah Ill drive that car to California twice a week for 5 years with out worrying about a thing. I spoke with and met the original owner who bought the car in March of 1970 and he said it died on the way home, there was a problem with one of the carbs it was pouring gas into the air cleaner, lol.. Then he said they fixed that after 1 day and the second day he brought it home it needed to be towed back to the dealership because it had NO SPARK, lol.. He owned it for 1 year, and the following year he bought a chevy!!! He wasn't a mopar guy. I bought the car from the second owner who bought it from him, and they worked in the same chemical plant in west warwick RI for 35 years !!!! That plant recently burnt down, well recently to me it burnt 10 years ago.

If you have time and want to read how I got the car, Ill share the story, its a long one, but to me its a good one, seeing how most people I run into and ask "where did you find her" they say "ebay" or "craigslist"...

Here it goes, it was the original owners brother who told me about the car- sitting in a garage in Coventry RI, 6 pack gtx, green with a black top.

We were at a breakfast joint in Johnston, ri . Me and my wife in a 69 charger r/t, I used to own, on a sunday morning. So this guy strikes up a conversation which is always nice to talk about our cars, and says "my brother had a 6 pack gtx, bought it brand new, sold it to his buddy from work and that guy still has it", so I am interested, LOL..
long story short, I say I would love to see it, maybe its for sale and I said give him my number, he agreed..

Before we were done eating he walks back over and said, "heres his number and address, I called my brother and he had the guy that owns it now call me, and he will sell the car today if you want it!!!!"
So my poor wife looks over and said "we aren't going for a walk at Roger Williams today are we?" (that's when a couple of older white people could walk that park alone, that came out racist, but its the truth)...
And we never took that walk, she was right, I went right to the address, with the charger, knocked on the door and was met by one of the nicest guys I ever met.

He showed me the car, my wife and his wife had some coffee, and there she was, NO ROT, NO RUST, FACTORY PAINT, ,NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT, with a locked up motor and 4 flats, and some mice that had moved in and out already..
He bought the car in 71' drove it for 2 years, couldn't afford to put gas in it said he was getting 3mpg, no matter how he drove it, lol, their lied the problem. He started just taking it out on weekends in the early 70's and one day he took it out and it locked up, turned out it was dumping fuel and they just didn't know anything about them, he said he should have known because it was gaining oil, when his others cars burnt oil, lol..

heres the best part 21,583 miles on it, lol. Maybe not the best part, these are my exact words
"I want the car and I will pay more than its probably worth NOT TO SEE IT SIT IN THIS GARAGE for the rest of our lives, she deserves sunshine and dunkin donuts parking lots"... He laughed and smiled, said lets go in the house and talk.

So we go in the house and he says to his wife "should I sell it", and his wife said "can you get enough to build the patio", turns out they were just going over having a patio put in, 22x36 with a firepit and built in cooking station.
Well guess who owned a john deere 110 back hoe, and specialized in patios, ingrounds, foundations, landscape construction, and driveways, lol.
They already had plans drawn up and had 3 or 4 quotes, my wife spilt the beans, she said that's what Bob does.
Great, lol I didn't even look at the plans, I looked out their sliding door leading into their yard and seen the stakes in the ground, I said "even trade, Ill do it"...

he laughed and said you don't know the plans, I said is that the plans there (they were in a closed yellow folder) he said yes, I put one hand on top of them and stuck the other out for the handshake!!!

he said you know that motors bad and it hasn't moved in a long time.. I said "Paul my arm is getting tired" and we shook on it right there!!!

To do the deal I wrote him a check for his lowest quote and took the car, it took me 5 days with 3 helpers, and $3500 in materials, I even had my granite guy put a new countertop in the kitchen in their house while he was going the outdoor slab (back then he charged me $750 to do the entire job, now it would be $4K) as a surprise...

That car isn't worth a million dollars but the entire experience is to me, I could have gotten $150K at one point for that car ,but I will never sell it, I restored it twice (kind of, the first time wasn't really a resto, it was a motor rebuild, interior cleaning, and tires, lol)...

I don't tell many people about that cars story, Paul and I became good friends, as did my wife and his, when I got the car on the road (took a winter to do it, the first time), first place I went was to his door to let him take me for a ride, and I let him and his wife take it for a bunch of sundays (I had the charger, we used to go together), BUT he passed a little bit ago and I cant look at the car with out thinking about him (in no way a bad thing), his wife is in an assisted living facility, my wife goes and takes her out once a week, that old mopar has made us family...

I think about it this way, everyone I meet in this hobby is a new friend, sure it costs me money to mess with these old cars, but it makes me feel young, which is something I am not. Meeting paul and his family, and having them over on holidays, and sure we seen each other many times with out even bringing up the cars, it was our common bond, and if you think about it, family is bonded by blood, which in some families is all they have keeping them "in common" Paul and I meet with something we were both passionate about in common and built a relationship out of a car, lol. I was closer to him than any family member short of my wife, mother, father and children I ever had. I have his picture in the car, and when people come to the garage and see my cars, that one is always covered, and of course everyone asks, but I always say "that's my buddies car, someday we will be back in it together" First time my wife heard me say that she broke down and almost fell to the floor, I didn't knew she was in the garage, but I said it so many times I didn't realize the impact it would have on her.

I know I am not going to be here forever so I don't show the cars much, some day they will have to be sold and don't want them being "known". they can buy my cars, but not my memories, like I said I don't share that story much, because I hear many myself, you know the story, this car belonged to the vet that didn't come home parents couldn't bare to sell it, they are thrown around and diluted by people with no connection to it.

I can promise this, if or when rather the day comes where that picture of me and paul is taken off the dash, I will have been long gone.

Its a long story, but when you get older ahopefully you will have a bunch of long stories too, if not, I'll feel for you..

I agree modern stuff is just that. But my cars can be driven across country whenever I want, and I get 16-20 MPG.
I also went down the modified path 15 years ago. I Installed one of the first 426 crate hemi's in my 67 GTX. TTI's, Disc brakes, Hemi transmission, msd, modern bushings, 15x7', big tires, etc. Red Base coat/clear show quality paint. Six months later. Bored.I saw no point in having 15k extra in the car. I sold the complete drivetrain, , and re-installed the Original 440 HP,factory exhaust, and road wheels. To this day I have more fun driving that car the way it was built. My second is the 66' Coronet with a really aggressive 440 Six BBL, Headers,MSD,etc. just under 500 HP. I thought It would be fun to have one that was over the top. again, Bored. I just sold that drivetrain a Month ago to a good friend that wanted to have a really bad GTX. The best thing is I can drive his car any time I want, and I don't have to own it. I Installed a perfect running 66 440 Stock engine,350 HP. it still will do 130, and you can't hear it at a stop light. all is good.
