is your hometown famous for anything?

Well, i grew up in the arm pit of Connecticut.
Waterbury, Connecticut.
When manufacturing was great, back in the dinosaur days, Waterbury, was known as the brass center, capital, of the world, with all the factories that were located back in that city.
I always hated that run down, decayed, factory town, and left in 1973 and joined the Air Force, and became a jet aircraft mechanic.
I worked in that industry 37 years first Thinsheet Metal Co. in Waterbury 10 years. Went on strike Aug 17th 1983 2 weeks before first house mortgage payment. Got a job at Miller Co. in Meriden Ct. same industry, they cast most of the metal they sold. $5 an increase over other company who never settled the strike. Best financial move I made.
Waterbury wasn't the asshole of the earth, close but Bridgeport is! If your running for governor and a dem call Bridgeport for as many votes as you need. Caught a woman stuffing a ballot box arrested but not prosecuted.

The town I grew up in, Fallbrook which is in north San Diego County, was home to Dragmaster in the 50's & 60's. They did move their operation to Carlsbad in the 70's. They were infamous for testing stuff on Main Street and putting them away before the sheriff would show up. The town and surrounding area was a huge Avocado producer before the soil was contaminated with a fungus that would kill the tree's. Then the area that was a sea of green from the tree's became a sea of rooftops. Also for those who are fan's of people wearing white capes, the local Kleagle in our area was Tom Metzger. His main occupation was tv repairs. Funny thing is, he lived on a side street that was mostly Mexican families and my Mexican friend lived right across the street from him. Even in the mid 70's, Metzger had surveillance camera's all around his house.
The town where we currently reside, Los Osos, is where the last California Grizzly Bear was before it got shot. Late 1800's/early 1900's.

Deer Park Texas....the birthplace of Texas but that's under dispute and has been for a very long time. Battle of San Jacinto where Santa Anna was taken down. I'm in Pasadena now but only about a mile from DP but still in the school district. The battle was in 1836 but the city wasn't named until 1892 and was incorporated in 1948. The town got it's name from the abundance of deer here at the time. Wasn't born in the area but have been here since 63....

My birthplace hometown of Palmerston North is not really 'famous' for anything much....unless you count the creation of plastic ear-tags for animals as famous.
Mostly people cannot wait to escape this small city in the lower/central North Island.

I went to school with some people who later became famous in New Zealand.... DJ/TV host Jeremy Corbett who didn't like me reminding him off-air prior to starting his morning show about 25 years ago about when he was caned in the corridor for talking during a homework detention. It was a tough school.....six of the best was something not easily forgotten. Several other DJ's from big radio stations over here attended also - Mark Smith and Jason Reeves for a couple, along with ex-TV sports presenter Hamish McKay.
Famous All Blacks also went to the school... one was even capped while still in the sixth form aged 18. Craig Wickes - although he only got 10 minutes game time, he still counts.

My family moved north to Auckland (the big smoke) in 1980 after I finished my first big set of exams....we landed in a part of town that was locally known as "Vim Valley" - named after a household cleaning product. The TV commercial was allegedly filmed in the house next door to ours. I attended Pakuranga College for just over one year before starting my apprenticeship. At that school I did the first Computer Studies class they had - using ticker tape as a printout. Learning to read that and program was very exciting...thankfully not long-lived. My class partner was Bruce Kendall - he and his sister became world champion board-sailors - to Olympic level. I had maths class with Lorraine Downes aka Miss Universe New Zealand - a title she gained just as she was finishing school.

Auckland is the current home of the America's Cup for yacht racing... and is currently hosting the next challenge in Barcelona, Spain.

Auckland is also the first city in the world to see the sun each day.

Auckland has the tallest building in the entire southern hemisphere - the Sky Tower.

Although Auckland only has a population of around 1.5 million residents, it can take anywhere from 2-3 hours to travel from one end to the other. The motorway system is a nightmare and stretches from north to south for approximately 82km (51 miles) - anyone who believes the local trip advisor has never driven that journey.

Auckland is built on a network of some 53 volcanoes.....with the largest visible one erupting only 750 years ago.

This is a shot I found which shows the part of Auckland I live in - Half Moon Bay - the Marina and Yacht club are in the centre.
My house is just on the left-hand edge below the river.

The water coming in from the right is actually known as the Tamaki River. Even though it's tidal and salt water. A couple of miles down-stream (to the left) is a tidal lagoon which is also salt water.

Grew up in Ironwood, MI. Famous for: Copper Peak Ski Flying hill.

The Copper Peak ski jump is made from 300 tons of sturdy COR-TEN steel and boasts a 469-foot cantilevered inrun with a 35-degree slope. It’s built to withstand even the strongest winds, including speeds of over 190 mph. During windy weather, you may observe a gentle 18-inch sway at the top, but rest assured, there’s no cause for concern! The jump sways intentionally as part of its design.

Ironwood is also ranked #9 of the top 10 Best Cross-Country ski destinations in the world.

Ironwood is also ranked in the top 10 snowiest destinations in the United States, by having over 200" annually.

just stupid stuff like chicken wings , great pizza , beef on weck , texas hots ( dogs) . and a nfl football record that will probably never be broken! some people say we get a lot of snow but i think there’s other cities that do better at that one ….

Gabriel’s Gate wings always made the trip worth the time during my corporate tour.

I'm east of Sonora, but still have a Sonora address
the Motherlode, mid 19th century, was known for gold
& used to be huge/big lumber supplier, we still have the big mill

Jamestown was a big railway hub, 20-ish miles away...

1993
There was a lady who shot & killed her sons killer/a pedophile rapist molester
on the doorsteps of the county/city courthouse, downtown Sonora
Ellie Nesler, she left moved to Sacramento after, she died alone in 2008
been a long time now...

Where I lived when in HS years 1974-1977
Garden Valley (my father owned a 149 acre ranch)
we had an annual hill climb race held there, near hwy 193
forget the roads name
from the base Coloma (Sutters mill gold park) area hwy 49 after the bridge,
to the Top in outskirts of Garden Valley (base on my dad's property started),
both highly modified cars & bikes & later even bicycles,
it was ranked one of the top 10 in Calif., don't know if they still run it (?)
I think, IIRC it was called Mt Murphy Rd. it was like 12' wide
IIRC but was known as 'Prospectors Grade'
& it's really windy, as all get out, switchback & near 90* turns all over
like 5.5 miles uphill 1,800ft (?) elevation change
Me & my stepbrother Tim, he was 4 months younger
we would race up & down it, & time it, not wide enough to go side by side....

My 68 Charger R/T f-60's front & N-50's rear, tucked under the fenders on Crager's
would kill his 73 Camaro/hopped up z28 clone, he had a really good built 355cid
he had 60's frt & 50's rear too, on Crager's, just not as big/wide as I could run...
I'd beat him by like 8-10 second every time, even when I drove his Camaro...

Garden Valley it was sister town/city of Georgetown Ca., rural El Dorado Co.
a few miles east, away from where the start of the Jeepers Jamboree, Rubicon Trail
excursion starts out, but Wentworth Springs is the real start,
some 30+ miles east by Lake Edison...
