Hey guys, i have a '73 Satellite Sebring Plus, factory optioned RoadRunner hood add-on, it has the 400 with a carter thermoquad, and well the factory Magnum 500's were just way too small, and made the car look dumb, with all that extra rear fender. So i bought a set of vintage American Racing Ansen Sprint Mags for the girl 14x8 in the front, and 14x10 in the rear, and now the car is perfect, it is the meanest car in my area, but here is my issue, the tires are old!, the fronts are okay, plenty of tread, they are 235-60-14, and the rears are GR50x14. I have no idea what this means, I know plenty are Mopars and our family is rich with knowledge but have never encountered tires like these. I need to find a new pair of rear tires, so i can get my girl back down to the strip and back on the road without worrying about a blow-out. I know Mickey Thompson makes drag radials, but i just need to know what the codes are for the new tires. Thanks and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks man, i just want to make sure that is correct, some other forums have led me to 345/50-14, which are Mickey Thompson Drag Radials, a 265 just doesnt sound like it would be big enough, cuz the fronts are 235. I would appreciate it, if you could tell me how you know it would fit, other than just trusting a chart.

I have had 245 x 60 x 14 B.F.Goodrich <= G60x14> on my 69 & 70 Roadrunners on all four rims for years and find no matter how good my alinement is they seem to wear bad on the front..They came with factory F70X14 which of course is a size down from the G and a size down from the 60..The local Mopar Guru says unless I aline every 3000/5000 miles they will alway wear as car was not made for these larger tires ...Next time I will be buying 15" Rims as 14" Tires are becoming Dinosaurs :eusa_think:.Just my $0.02 ..Good Luck Rick...

Tires

I am running 285/70r15 on the rear of my RR. in order to make that fit correctly I put an "A" body rear end in it and used spring re locators for an "E" body (offset hangers). I have these mounted on 10"rims and a 4" or 4.5" back space (cant remember which) from wheel vintiques. I wanted the tire to tuck into the body. the measurements on my tires are between 11-12" wide, approx 30" tall. In order to get the correct rim tire combo for your car yo will need to do the measurements. Remember that the "285" is the width in MM. to convert divide by 25.4 and you will get inches. the "70" is the height, 70% of the width, this equals the side wall height. that that number times 2 plus you rim diameter and there is you over all diameter.
So. with out putting a straight edge on you axle (where the wheel bolts to) and measuring your wheel well room room, you will not know what your car can handle. now it doesn't make any difference if you want the tires to stick out the side of the car, then you can go as wide as you want with the standard mopar wheel back spacing.

What??? Trust the chart. When you say big enough, are you referring to tread width or tire height? You can go taller with a 60 or 70 series, but be very careful on width, 275 - 285 - 295. You didn't state the setback on your rims and clearance will be an issue. How much space do you have between tire and fender lip and tire and leaf spring? With a 10" wheel, you really need a 275 and probably a 70 series so it does't rub the fender. Different story if you have air shocks and can raise the body a little. Try this and yes, trust it

Man, i aint worrying about the height, i have performance air-shocks on the rear to jack her up, my rear tires are 10 inches wide. and i am not worrying about my tire rubbing, they are sitting underneith the rear fenders now, and they look perfect! But thank you MRHWS, you gave me what i have been needing, i will now begin my search for any tire that is a 265, i am hoping to find atleast a 60 but would reach want a 70 or higher, but i doubt i will be able to find anything, and my beast will sit until tire makers get their thumbs out of their asses and make some wider 14's, if anyone can find me some tires, id appreciate it.

Sizes, 265/60-14
265/65-14
265/70-14 and up, thanks

I have a stock 74. I went with cragar 15 x 8 std 4.25 backspace and 245-50-15 on the front and 275-60-15 on the rear I did have to roll 1/2 of inner fender over hang., that is cool though causr there is about 1.5 in over hang back there Now had I decided to wait four weeks for cragar to make themI could have gone with a 5.25- 5.5 backspace and run 295s possably on a 10 rim on the back..
I'll tell ya that 245/275 looks way Grreat .
Now I only had to roll because when I went from a flat road and made a tight turn to an uphill likw my drive way i had the slightest little mark.
Another thing I did was take the rims home ane put 10 coats of wax on the outside and 5 coats on the inside. THAT was well worth my time because it was winter and I brought them in the house and did em on the counter top while sipping a cold beer. Much much better than crewling around on the floor wearing out my knees. Then I took them back to have them mounted.
I dont know where you are st but I got and printed out great prices from Summitt and went to my local discount tire and they did all the work. hell we even test mounted the 295s but had to pull them and go with the 275 due to a big rub that would have ruined the tires. One other thing I learned is that for every 20 (like 285 vs 275) you go up or down will equal approx 1in of section width.
