Well here I am attempting to drive my car for the first time in 4 months….I did drop tranny, z bar …ect. to clean and repaint…..went together great….put new GL 4 140 weight in tranny…..seemed as though it shifted smooth…..went to put it in reverse gear grinding…went to try shifting it in 1st, 2nd thru forth seem bound up….I can depress the clutch pedal seems smooth…..I can shift the gears with engine off seems okay…..what’s up…..I realize idle may be a little high…that’s why reverse probably is grinding….drive shaft can only go in one way….right…I’m open for some helpful hints…thanks to all who responded.

Okay….I found out the major issue is I don’t have the clips in the shifter yet which’s cause easy twice as much play in the handle while shifting…..I did manage to get it in reverse….1st and 2nd going around the neighborhood….first time on the road in 4 plus years…..I live in Florida….owners Manuel says gl 4 140….anyway am I to put in gl 5 synthetic 90 in…pleased advice…..what brand….parts store only had gl 4 140…

Maybe get it all together completely and adjusted then go drive it. Don’t put in synthetic oil that gearbox, just more problems. Not built for it. Maybe call and talk to Dan Brewer first.

Sta-Lube GL4 85W-90. Best price i've found is on Amazon. You can also order from napa or walmart. Supposedly gl4 doesn't harm the brass synchros where gl5 and others might.

Thanks to all….I did talk to brewers and they said I can get by with 140 in Florida but I’ll most likely change it to 90….I’ll get ahold of Napa….

What likely happened is the pressure plate was stuck against the flywhell because it was sitting sandwiched for so long. The simplest remedy is to depress the clutch, put in reverse or a forward gear, then turn over the starter. Make sure your other foot is on the brake so you don't run someone over.
