Issues with coils

MSD 6X does NOT use, or need, a bal res. The coil failures may be due to bad coils, or an internal fault in the 6X box.
Or maybe the charging system voltage is wrong?

So time for a quick update. The replacement coil from summit was installed on the car when it arrived. I have been driving the car as often as I can when the weather is good a by God it is an animal. Had a nice drive at the weekend racing my buddy in his 2014 392 challenger.
The old coil had unfortunately packed in possibly due to damp conditions but I'm not too sure and the replacement is working like a dream. Nothing was changed on the cars charge system and no ballast resistor installed as its not required. It just seems that I had a bad coil before. Unfortunately the saying seems to be true. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good

OP - great news. Please give us another update after 1000 miles on this new coil. Fingers crossed this one lasts as you said before you blew multiple coils, not just one, correct?

That would be correct. I went through two coils. I've done roughly 800 miles so far on this new coil. About 799 of those miles have been heavy driving as in foot to the floor. I'll hit everyone back with another update in another few months. So far so good with this new coil

Just steeping in here to voice my Accel 1.5 ohm coil bit the dust after 1700 miles. New build.
Been using them for years on points and electronic ignition Mopars. First failure with model 8140.
I guess anything/everything can fail sometime.

Is anyone keeping score on ignition system component failure ......coils (standard Mopar, Accel, Pertronix, E core), ballast resistor, ECU (Mopar orange box, MSD, Pertronix, GM-HEI conversation)........what fails first, brand, etc......just curious.....

I've learned over the last 10/15 years that new doesn't always mean good. Even buying top dollar items they don't last like they used to but sometimes they do. It seems to be its the luck of the draw.

Nothing like good old factory Ma Mopar parts when you can get 'um.
Just sold my 37 years old D350 Ram.Only ignition part I changed was the dual pickup in the distributor.
When it wouldn't start I just unplugged one pickup and ran it on the other till I got a new one.
Never had a coil, control box even the voltage was OE. 100,000 + miles on that 'ol 318.
