Saturday night was a mixed bag. Last week I replaced all the existing 1/2” hard fuel line with -8 braided hose and AN fittings up to the mechanical pump, and -6 from the mechanical pump to the carb. I also added the electric pusher back to the equation, and eliminated the check-valve bypass line. Not exactly sure why this worked, but it seems to have taken care of the problem. Car is holding 6psi driving around, and 4psi through the top of the track.
With consistent fuel pressure, came the return of Car consistency as well. (3) time hits: 11.351, 11.353, & 11.370. I can dial that!
Went a couple of rounds and was feeling real good when Murphy struck once again. Round 3: I rolled out of the water box and went to put the car in the beams. While turning off the line-lock and flipping on the 2-step, I decided to also pull on the running lights, as it was getting dark. As soon as I pulled the light switch, the car lost ignition and died immediately. Wouldn’t start, clearly no spark. Ugghh. After they pushed me back, I looked under the hood and immediately noticed that with the key on, I seemed to have everything except the ignition box. I run an MSD Digital 6-plus box. It has a light that confirms power, it was dark.
So.... this week it’ll once again be a mid-week chore, this time to find an electrical short. These are clearly the pitfalls of running a car that is essentially a survivor. It’s never been disassembled or re-wired. Each of these issues forces me to improve the car though, so I guess it’s the path I’m on. I’ll update back here when I find the issue.
