Just relearned why a used radiator is no bargain

Bought it an hour from home nice and straight unit with only one lose frame bracket. So I bought two bottles for CLR (calcium lime rust cleaner) and with a bargain-priced fluid pump that ran off my drill, I ran it for several hours after it sat soaking all night. I took it to the local shop and just looking at it he said the tubes more than likely are rotted and leaking. I left it with him and he called back the next day and confirmed the core was leaking and while he can re-core it the price was way too high. So I'm in the market for a re-pop one.

Picked up the two-stage paint for the engine compartment. It was tough to match but found a suitable one at the dealer. Once we get some warmer weather I will be painting it wich starts the reassembly of the drive train and front suspension.
 
Yep Ive wanted to buy a few buy thats what I was afraid off. I dont have good luck.
 
Read that CLR bottle... it's not for use on brass, copper, aluminum or galvanized metals. It will eat them, especially left overnight.

Auggie. What size are you looking for and what sides are the inlet and outlet? I picked up a new aftermarket radiator in a parts deal a couple years ago and I don’t think it’s ever been used. If it works I could make you a great deal.... and you are only 20 minutes away

How much did you radiator guy want to re-core it? I’m curious what that costs.

He says a grand but I don't think he wanted to do it as most of his work is commercial vehicles.

The one I have is a Engineering Cooling Products 22 inch with the below dimensions. I checked and it's never been used but it looks like it was mounted. Other than a little shelf wear, it's brand new.

Let me know if this will work for you and I'll let you have it for $125.

I had the radiator recored for my survivor 1969 Charger in 2018 for $500....and then the charger got totaled.....

Looks OK but my lower outlet measures 1 3/4" maybe it's for a small block? I have a 440. Thanks for the detailed post.
 
Used to use 50/50 water and muriatic acid to clean out radiators.....
 
Recore I didn’t realize that was that much. I need to do mine in the next couple months but it is one of the later assembly items. I’ve seen some used ones “in very good condition” but know better in Phoenix to cheap out on that.
 
I paid $500 to have my radiator on the GTX triple cored back a few years ago. It started leaking on the new owner and he paid another $150 to have it sealed again. Original radiator.
