i got my K frame out and redoing the suspenion . how is yous painted ? all years are fine . mine is a 1973 road runer . it looks like the lower control arms were maybe gold ? :shruggy:

what kind of paint did you use ?

thanks

RANDY

I think the K-frame itself should be 30 degrees gloss black and I don't have one in front of me right now, but the Eastwood cataloge has the paint for the control arms, along with everything else you might need as far as specialty coatings.

The lower arms look gold because of being dipped in cosmoline. They weren't painted. Uppers were (more or less) painted black

here is how I did mine

not powder coated. it is a fake cosmoline paint from restro rick

here is the product Cosmoline Aerosol Details

Aerosol spray can of Cosmoline rust inhibitor coating as used on Moparlower control arms.
Also an excellent corrosion inhibitor for coating inner panels such as door skins.

Price: $10.00

Powder coat everything if you are not looking to be original, there is no comparison!

I have seen a lot of rusty control arms so not sure if the cosmolime was used 100% of the time. I heard cosmoline was used for the replacement parts only and not in production but I can't verify. I just painted all my suspension stuff with POR1 15 metal mask. The K frame is kind of a semi gloss. Maybe SEM trim black? Or the 2 part hot rod black??

I have experimented and tried all kinds of paint to match the factory 30 degree gloss black. I have had the very best luck using VHT Gloss Black Epoxy paint. It seems to have the right sheen and it is easy to work with and durable. I used this paint on most of my suspension components as well as the torsion bars and like the results. The Eastwood Extreme Chassis black is too shiny but likely tough as they say. Not my choice for correctness. Duplicolor Gloss or Semi Gloss Acrylic Enamel is also good. Anyone got any better ideas on colors to use?

i found that Krylon Glossy black is almost dead on correct.

Its the other way around. Replacements didn't come with cosmoline.
Here's what I use on mine. It's a thined out sprayable cosmoline. You will need to do a few passes to get the correct color. It will also take a good long while for cosmoline to set.

Powder coat is the way to go. Upper control arms are found in natural and black. The over the counter replacements back in the day were black mine were unpainted. K-frame and backing plates sand blasted and coated $70. It was worth $50 not to have to clean it LOL And the cam bolts are black phosphate I had to change those before it went in. But this is a 69 car
