So I need a refresher, I havent been on a track since the late 80s....now if I remeber right 60' lights are beams just like staging lights....which if doing a massive bumper dragging wheel stand wouldnt the back tires be the ones tripping the timer??? So lets say on a 1.19 60, what woul be the time if wheels were down???? 1.00 60???

A car clocking 1.00 at the 60' mark, it's gonna be running around 7.20 in the 1/4 mile so the difference in the rear wheels tripping it would probably be more like around .05 difference....maybe less.

I was just goin with it...estimated on the curve....figured if the wasted upward torque was replaced with forward positive motion it would be worth at least .1
Nothing I ever raced had enough to pull the wheels

Yeah I have to agree with BeaterRus,
most or a very large %'s of the drag racing community
are stand up & great people, very helpful...

They'd usually all give the shirt off their backs & parts out of their bins,
many things, if they could help...
At least most that I was hanging around...

And don't worry about messing up your first full on pass. Keep in mind that everyone there had to make theirs at one time or another and yeah, we all got our turn laughing . I can remember my first fast car....one that was actually faster than 13's. It was a buddies 10.70 stick car and I wasn't expecting the hit and my dog gone head about fell into the back seat! I bet that looked real good lol. At least we were there very early and the weather had been bad most of the day but it cleared up good enough to open the track. Not that many people were there thinking there would be no racing so very few saw that....thank goodness!

Remember my first pass in 69 Camaro 400ci. Almost lost it into the wall I was so surprised. That thing had over 500 ponies. I borrowed it from a friend. Had no idea. he said," Sure...go ahead and have pass with it." Bastard.

Budnicks; Excellent observations and information on the whys and how-comes of wheel standing on drag racing cars. As was said, you're not trying to launch rocket ships (which go up); any motion that isn't straight forward is wasted motion and slower times. The Pro-Stock cars are probably the best example of how to 60 foot. As for the video of the Stock or Super Stock cars, please re-read Budnick's article. I'm with you on this one, Bud...

Drag racing to win is as @Budnicks points out, all about forward momentum, not lifting the wheels off the ground for great distances. All that does is allow the clock to tick away without much ground being made.
Unless of course you have a crowd-pleaser vehicle like Bill Maverick's LRW, wheelie's are just for showing off....much like wearing budgie-smugglers at the beach.

The fast cars seem to me to be hooking up and moving from the git go towards the far end. I mean, not even much of a front wheel lift, just deep torque grunt off the line. Wheelies are for show, not go.
