Our local lake does the same thing. The two acre pond on the home farm would do it to. We've been ice skating on it and cracking and that sound would make you think whether you should be on it.

but way too loud & too long of a tone
& it's way too cold for frogs too, they just laughed

by the hi-way river crossing, looking at the huge ice sheets buckling & moving in Alaska
outside of Anchorage, while going home to Palmer, back in the mid 80s
