Working on a Gen 2 472 Hemi. Been thinking of using lash caps mainly because I never did before. Anything you could tell me ? Do you just place them on top of the valve stem, and go about adjusting the valves? It has a hydraulic flat tappet cam and roller rockers. Many thanks in advance !

Lash caps are used for non hardened valve tips or to help rocker geometry.

I used lash caps on several of my wedge engines. Just to keep the valve intact. Used with my mushroom & my roller cams.

lewtot184, That's what I hoped for. Just wasn't happy with what I have on the exhaust side.

Do you need cut down valve keepers rather than stock keepers?

Using them lash caps just on a whim, eh? Make sure the lash cap doesn't contact the locks.

I read up on them, said to use 7* locks and found that is what the head has. If I run into trouble and they hit, well I'm only out 12 bucks.

They make different diameter & depth thickness Lash Caps
you can also shim the rocker shafts...

I've used lash cap quite a few times,
especially with roller rockers, gives more surface area
for the rocker to run on, you need to make sure the pushrod
is correct length too, not all stuff is bolt in & go...

make sure they {lash caps} contact the top of the valve-stems &
they don't contact the keepers/locks, fit snug on the valve tips
with no interference with the rocker body, keepers/locks, retainers etc.

make sure the rockers tips/rollers etc. stays in the center
or close as possible to center of the valve tip
thru-out the camshaft rotation full cycle

sometimes you need to go with longer pushrods with
"small base circle" roller cams too, you need to measure properly
or shorter pushrods depending on many different factors
it needs to be checked either way...

I use Comp Lash Caps on my COMP flat tappet cam in my 505".
They just insert on top of my valve stems.
The tight clearances on the valve lash (.016 and .020 in my case) hold them in place.
No issues whatsoever in over 100 runs on my new motor.
I have roller tip rocker arms and they provide a lot more surface area for the rocker arm roller to glide on.

What valve material is required for there useage? Titanium?

No...regular valves.
Roger, regular valves need lash caps.
No to the titanium.
should be able to use them on any material.
Gotcha
It's not what I can use them on but what I must use them on. Darter6 wanted to use them but I don't know what material his valves are.

As mentioned above, the size/depth of the caps must be paid attention to. I see a mention of lock type or actually the noting of 7* or 10*.

Can someone explain that? I never thought about that. I haven't noticed a mention to it from reading elsewhere. Catolog or forums & magazine articles.

The location of the keeper in relation to the height will determine if a standard lash cap can be used. There is also the shorter lash cap that is .150 to .162 tall.If the valve tip does not protrude enough above the keeper, the shorter one is needed.
Lash caps are available in different thickness and for a varitey of valve stem thickness.
If the valve stem is not hardened,a lash cap is required. If it is hardened it is optional.

When searching for caps under 426 Hemi, The Comp Cams # CCA-619-8 list as "short" for keeper clearance. As they say,"Learn something new every day". I should have them in a few days.
