Yep - this is an early 65 built in August 64 and came with a 318 when it was purchased new by my dad. I've been driving it legally since early 65 when I got my learner's permit. When I restored the car last year, the big block was something I have been wanting to put in it for 45 years and the red just doesn't go that well with the original copper poly color. Your set up is what I was going to do with the convertible, but I do drive it a lot so the single four barrel with a little beefier cam is what it got. Maybe some fender call outs are in the future...................
Here is my beater 65 Belvedere. Sorry about the pic quality. I have owned this one for fifteen years, Original 383 4-spd car, 64 fury seats, legendary door panels, all suspension and mechanical rebuilt but I left the old ragged paint and rough body. It's a driver and my favorite car out of the ten Mopars I own.
An earlier post indicated that you could only get a black side trim color with a black interior. I can assure you that this 65 Belvedere II convertible came with black interior and white side trim. Maybe it is because of the white convertible top but I personally never thought it looked right for the past 46 years so when I restored the car last summer, I changed the trim color to black. The attached photo shows the car before the restoration started while it still had the original white side trim. I'm not sure what type of paint or method Mopar used to paint the side trim but it was a pain removing all the white paint prior to painting the trim black. The finished restoration with the black side trim can be seen a few posts up in this thread. It is also worth noting that the anodized aluminum side trim could be ordered in red as well as black or white. The red trim combined with red interiors on black or white cars is very striking but it sure wouldn't work on copper poly!
Todd, I wasn't too sure about de-trimming my car but your Dads car looks awesome! Is it a Belvy or Satellite and what size tire is stuffed under the rear?
