round nose....both are jacketed rounds. What should I look at?

Magizine lips, feed ramp , and the load components of each round.
Bullet weight, fps, brass or aluminum.

Brass....don't know the weight. Seems like the magizine isn't as tight as my other semi autos that I have and those are Glocks. Even the round nose seem a bit rough going in. The hollow points were .003"-.004" larger and I filed one round nose tip to about 1/16" flat and that one wouldn't chamber either.

Look at a modern pistol. Taurus G2Cis a good one
This one is from a friend that passed away recently and I'm trying to help his widow liquidate some stuff. Thought I'd get the Llama but after telling her I'm interested, I'm not so much now lol. Did buy a Mossberg 500 12g and it seems to work ok but haven't fired it yet.

The Mossberg is timeless. But if you need hollow points in a pistol you are a lot better off with a newer generation gun.
You could sell the Llama and probably get a g2c and a case of ammo

Well, if I'm going to go after a different semi-auto pistol, it won't be a 9. Thought this one might be ok for the price but looks like I thought wrong. Thanks on the comment on the Mossberg. It's my first pump and kinda like it :) even though the Remington 1100 is one I really like but so far, one of those hasn't showed up over all the years.

As far a shot guns go mine is a old 12 ga. Savage Steven's 3" pump, no rib ,older than me lol. For clays and hunting birds.

See if Wilson Combat makes 'a Mag' for it
well worth the $30 or so $$'s (don't buy the cheap mags)
Midway USA or Bass Pro maybe even

I'm not familiar with Llamas
But;
I wonder if the spring 'in the org. Mag' may be weak too
or stuff is dirty
(or slide hanging up/dirty or recoil spring could be weak/junk)
they need to be cleaned too,
especially if it's left sitting loaded or cocked & locked for a long time,
which could weaken the spring 'allegedly'
or when shot & not cleaned well,
even the mags need to be cleaned every so often too

Maybe take it to a good Gunsmith
maybe the entry ramp or maybe even on the forcing cone/barrel entrance
may need to be touched up, and cleaned up
(I'd still suspect the Mag 1st or a spring)
&/or
if the ammo stuff 'is reloads', check the OD diameters of the rounds
some rush the process & don't size them well/right

it's not uncommon for older semi-autos 'to not like'
to cycle/load semi-wadcutter/wadcutters
(flat tip bullets mostly for target practice)
or
lighter loads not enough 'oomph' to cycle properly
or hollowpoints,
they like full loads/'hardball style' jacketed rounds

We are spoiled with the excellent semi autos we have now.
Back when that Llama was probably made it was common for auto pistols to be unreliable, especially with hollow points.

I agree with Budnicks on the magazine spring, especially if it's several years old and/or you store it fully loaded. Either way, try a new spring before you take more drastic measures or throw in the towel. Could be the hollow points offer just a bit more friction in the mag than the round noses. Might even shop for a + 5% spring for that extra little push. My always faithful Sig P226 9mm began misfeeding and jamming and a new mag spring cured it completely.

Shotguns
Hard to beat a Remington 870 pump 'in any gauge'...
I have/had '870 wing masters' (bird guns) in 20 ga & 12 ga
lost in a horrific boating accident
great scatter guns, last forever & they don't misfire
(like the aforementioned brand)
you can always shoot buckshot for home defense too

the 1100 is no slouch

Try a lighter or heavier bullet, different mags. I thought those Llama’s had a decent reputation back in the day. Are those hollow points you are using “defense” loads? If so they may be a bit much for the action.

Aluminum or steel frame? Aluminum frame gets beat up and needs a steel feedramp insert. Most manufacturers have a ramped barrel for this reason. Throat of the barrel matters too. I've opened up a Sig P6 ramp to work with hollowpoints.

I don’t think hollow points were widely used in Europe when Llama was producing firearms. My guess is that the feed ramp profile was designed for hardball ammo. Polishing the feed ramp as mentioned in a previous post might help. Different hollow point ammo might help too, you just need to figure out what the gun likes.

Whatever you do, don’t use it for self defense if it’s not 100% reliable…

I honestly couldn't tell you a damn thing about 9mm, it's metric, I hate metric lol.
All kidding aside, I use this in 45 when I don't roll my own, it's close to ball, but not for defense as they say but it'll punch a hole in something, not big cause it's that weird metric stuff.
