I’m running a new msd atomic 2 efi and msd 6efi ignition box. Can I lock out my Mopar electronic distributor and let the efi control timing? If so, how do I lock it out?
Thanks!

Get a distributor from a Chrysler Lean-Burn car for your engine. Those were locked out. Surely someone on this site has one, or several, collecting dust under their bench.

Calling halifaxhops ! The Mopar distributor master.

Hey stop yeling I am here. No sweat making a lock out I have all the parts. Lean burn will work also but remember most of have dual pickups and you only need the primary one.

You need to know the amount of lead angle (number of degrees before TDC to trigger the Control Unit) so you can phase the rotor correctly.
Trial and Error will work if you can get it close.
Locking out the advance if just making sure the Distributor input never changes angle to the rotor, so blocking, welding, ect. works to "lock" the distributor.
To "phase the rotor", the easy way would be to drill or machine a new slot in the reluctor about 1/2 way between the two points, and re-install it.
If it is exactly 1/2 way, the lead angle should be 45-degrees. You may need to go a bit more depending on what the electronics is looking for.
You could also re-position the magnetic pickup.

Thank you for posting this. I have a similar situation. I have an electronic tach drive distributor that I want to lock out for a MSD 6AL-2 Programmable ignition box.

HALIFAXHOPS if you don’t mind I will need some guidance (and possibly parts) also.

The MP tach drive uses a special reluctoradvancecam in one, you get one way of locking it out wellding it and if it goes wrong very hard to find a new or used one. Wont touch locking them out. Reg dist no issues.

Ah man that sucks. I have a sweet old Jones Motorola tach that I was hoping to use. I especially got the tach drive dizzy and a cable so I could use it. It’s going on a Hemi do I wanted that original brown cap look.

thanks for getting back to me. Any other ideas?
